Hyphenation is driving me crazy!
the last word of a line is often broken up and hyphenated.how do I stop this?

So it's a KFX book (= new Kindle format with hyphenation, it can't be turned off). So the "solution" to your problem is to use your PC to download (option "Download & transfer via USB" ) the book (because it will it download as .azw3 or older azw/mobi format instead of .kfx, those formats don't have hyphenation) from Manage Your Content and Devices webpage and transfer that file over USB cable.

And you have to repeat that for any book in future that has hyphenation.

At size 5, you might have a better experience in Landscape orientation. At least there will be less hyphenation.

Another option with an old public domain book like that is to go to gutenberg.org and download a copy for your Kindle. Here's a link to it's page on Project Gutenberg:
