MP3 Player with Bookmarking
Hi All, been reading the threads here, but unfortunately I seem to be in the minority in either needs and technical availability.
I've been looking for a considerable amount of time for a MP3 player for listening to Audiobooks and Podcasts on. Now here is the kicker, I run Linux (no Windows or OSX in my house). I've got a couple of mp3 players that I've tested out, and I've been able to overcome the files being listed randomly in the mp3 player, however I have yet to find one that I can bookmark mp3 files. The Philips Vibe I found if I convert mp3 to m4b I can bookmark the file and come back later, however I find this a little frustrating as not only do I need to convert, I need to increase the audio volume (the player is really quiet) and sort the filesystem to keep files in numeric/alphabetic order. The Sansa Zip looks interesting, does that support bookmarking of mp3 files at all? |

I usually use a Sansa Clip+, unfortunately they are no longer made. With it, it does remember where I stop when I turn it off. But, I only listen to one thing at a time. I'm not sure how the Sansa's handle more than one item. And fyi, I think the Zip is discontinued too, not sure though. I did pick up a cheap no contract phone for Christmas. I'm using Smart AudioBook Player on it. I am pretty sure it does bookmarks. I tried going full time to Linux, but unfortunately I need too many programs that I can only run under Windows. Will Mp3Tag run under Wine for you to be able to correctly tag your books? S P.S. I tried the Zip. I played one book for a bit, hit pause, went out of it back to my list of audio books. I started playing another, paused it, turned off the player. When I turned back on the player it took me right back into the second book. I backed out of it, chose the first one, and it asked me if I wanted to start from the beginning or resume from where I had paused. I chose resume, it took me right back to where I was. So I guess in a way it bookmarks. |

Even if one of your players doesn't have them , just check if you can put rockbox firmware on it and you're golden. |

I have a Sansa Clip Zip as my go to mp3/audiobook player. It's running Rockbox and you can switch between it and the original firmware on boot.
As I never listen to more than one audiobook at a time I have never needed to worry about bookmarking because it saves the place you were at when you switch off the player. The Clip Zip is readily available on ebay and amazon for a reasonable cost. The microSD card slot is a huge selling point for these, as is the sound quality. I wouldn't know what to change to if I had to swap to a different player. For the price, there's nothing else out there remotely as good...IMO ![]() Last edited by leaston; 01-19-2016 at 09:13 AM. |

Kings Audio Sonic mp3 usb stick player.
I've been down the Sony mp3 player route with small speaker or headphones.
Now I've got a King's Audio Sonic mp3 usb stick player which can bookmark up to 4 different usb sticks. Its only 160mm long by 60mm high and 60mm deep. Designed for blind and partially sighted but great for everyones use. Can be used on mains or with its internal rechargeable battery. I download library audiobooks onto the usb stick or convert my cd audiobooks to mp3. Its about £40 for sighted people but VAT free for blind/partially sighted folks. As a bonus its got bluetooth, so can be used as a speaker to a bluetooth device. ![]() Rob |
