Myvu crystal for reading

Hey all,

I couldn't sleep this night partly because I got too excited about the prospect of video goggles. Most of my enthusiasm came from the idea of coupling myvu's crystal with a n95 and a bt keyboard for really portable hacking. Or more portable than a eee pc is. Then I realized that there isn't much info on readability of text on these things. Has anyone tried reading (magazine, book, basic computer text) with one of these or a comparable product? Any thoughts? Teleread had a thread on this, but didn't offer any conclusions on the vga resolution glasses and text.

I've been thinking about the possibilities of this kind of hardware myself for a few years.
A laptop in the backpack and a trackball on the hip might be a good start.

Have you seen the frogpad? Someone used it with a n800 with the frogpad velcroed to his leg/bag. N95's are fast enough for some browsing and definitely good enough for a ssh session.

Seems interesting, I'll have a more detailed look later on.

I wrote to myvu

I wrote to myvu and received an answer that doesn't answer anything. The money back guarantee sounds good though, so maybe I'll try to do it through the german distributor.

Here is the answer:

Thank you for your interest in our myvu personal media viewer. The
resolution is there with Crystal for reading text (640 x 480 VGA). I
think it is subjective whether or not you would find it acceptable for
your needs. We offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you would like to
order through our website and try is out for a few weeks.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Annemarie DiPietro

I bought a pair of something like that several years ago ... I think they were by Sony, but I'm not certain. They are out in the garage somewhere.

Those were a bit larger, but in a way, I liked that because it blocked out more of the view and incoming light so it was more like being in a theater.

I'm sure in the intervening years the technology has changed such that they are much lighter ... and probably have better resolution. As I recall, the ones back then were just a bit grainy ... and I think the price was about $1000 for a pair.

The price has certainly come down a long way!!

I'm going to have to drag those puppies out of where ever I have them stashed and try them out again.
