Do not use USB networking. Take the root file system from one of Amazon's update images (see: KindleTool); Install a Linux VM on your windows machine. Make the mount point directory wherever you desire. Enter the mount command. If you want to run the code (and you have an Intel/AMD based PC, rather than an ARM based PC) - Set that directory up so that Linux will transparently run ARMel binaries. |

You might get a different answer if you asked in a Windows based developer group.
Isn't Bill advertising something called Windows Universal? Running a different operating system built for a different processor hardware would seem, by name, to fall into its purview. This forum really isn't a hot bed of current Windows development information for embedded Linux on ARM devices (although I am sure there are such forums to be found somewhere). Maybe use the underlined phrase above in your search of Windows developer resources. |

Hmm...
Ref: https://github.com/Microsoft/Windows-universal-samples Reading the README . . . . It says the examples default to ARM, but if you are using Intel, you have to change the default. That seems to say that Windows Universal will not run ARM code. Although there are QEMU binaries for both 32 bit Windows: https://qemu.weilnetz.de/ And for 64 bit Windows: https://qemu.weilnetz.de/w64/ It could be that MS is just a little bit behind the curve, **in public** at least. A Windows based developer's forum is probably the place to get current advice. All of the above stuff might be actually ready to use **in practice** and the details just haven't filter through the MS bureaucracy into public sites yet. A Windows developer's forum should have the latest information. My Windows knowledge since Win95 is limited to how to get rid of it, if it shows up pre-installed on some hardware I purchase.
