Android for Nook now offering free downloads

I have a HP Stream 7 (windows) that I use like to use for reading. The Nook app for windows 8/10 is actually pretty good. The Kindle app is terrible IMHO. I like the 7" form so I thought of my old Nook Tablet. I got it out and charged it. It decided that it need to do a factory reset, but since then has been working fine. I would like to get the Kindle app on it so I looked at Android for Nook website and found they are giving away free downloads for a limited time.

However, they say you should use a Class 4 micro sd card. All I have are Class 10 cards and I cannot find any Class 4 cards locally. I know Amazon sells them, but I don't have anything else I need to order right now.

Has anyone tried a Class 10 card? Opinions?

I haven't tried a class 10 card but using the N2A system, another company doing the same thing, I followed their forum discussions for a while. I have used N2A from time to time.

They tried to get this working on both 64gb and class 10 cards and finally gave up. A few users had success with only occasional problems but most had a lot of problems. I don't recall the reasons for that.

It's been a few years since I followed that and it's entirely possible the situation has changed since then but it's what I know so I thought I'd share it.

The price of class 10 cards is low enough that it can't hurt to try it. You can always use the card for something else if it fails. And if you've paid for the system you can always get a class 4 card later to use it.

I do know that N2A worked reasonably well on a class 4 card. I used it on a Nook Color and later on a Nook HD and also on a Nook HD+. I still keep the formatted card handy for my old Nook HD, although I don't use it that much.

It's not the most stable Android I've used. It works very well but just every now and then it locks up. A forced reboot always fixes it. It doesn't happen often enough to be a major problem but it does happen often enough to be a bit of a pain at times. Again, this is about N2A. I haven't used their competitors and know nothing about them.

Yes, I noticed they took down the site. I found a couple of You Tube videos on how to root with links to files used. I just did it today on my Nook Tablet. It wasn't as hard as I thought. It works OK but it is an older version of Android. Therefore, it will only run an older version of Kindle and Google Play books and they aren't very good. So I didn't really gain anything. I just used the 8Gb Class 10 microsd card I already had and it worked fine. It will do until I decide what my next reader will be. I think a Kindle Oasis may be in my future, but not immediately (have to save up for it).
