K3-confused about update

Hi all,

I have a Kindle Keyboard3 3G US on version 3.4. It is jailbroken--I believe looking at my files on my computer from several years ago--I used update jailbreak 0.13N-k3g_install.bin. Afterwards I installed some hacks.

I received an email from Amazon telling me to update to 3.4.2. Is this safe to do without losing jailbreak or any the related hacks?

Right now I have the "back door locked" hack so when I turned on 3G without connecting to wifi, I got a message that it did not download 2.2M Update-17259700040_2687240004.bin

It is safe, the latest version posted at http://amzn.com/kindlesoftwareupdates/keyboard is 3.4.2 and has been out for a while.

Amazon just wants to make sure no one is still running outdated firmware, because they are getting ready to update their website to modern crypto and they don't want peoples' Kindles to stop being able to wirelessly connect to the Kindle Store.

Thanks. So can you confirm all I have to do is put the update_backdoorlock_12-k3g_unisntall.bin from my computer onto the kindle? This will take off the back door lock and the kindle will update.
Then I install the backdoor lock again and my jailbreak and all the hacks will be unaffected?

If you have KUAL installed, then just use it to disable the back door lock.
The backdoor lock could have been installed either with KUAL support or without - so I can't tell from here what you did.

I don't recall the exact details of updating pre-Touch devices.
But I do know that a fully-updated K3 can certainly be jailbroken.

The update is an incremental patch update, so you *should* just be able to sideload the update downloaded from the above link, apply that update (because BackDoorLock does not prevent you from manually choosing to update) and everything will still work.

Hmmn, I'm guessing I installed the backdoor directly since I have that file and the uninstall folder in a folder on my pc.

I do have KUAL installed. But unsure if I have the right extensions to use that to disable the back door.

The menu for Kual on my device is as follows:
Kual: sort menu , save and reset , quit
Helper+: Install MR packages, prevent screensaver, allow screensaver,device ID
BBB: Load firewall/BBB filter, Remove BBB filter, Generate packet report, clear packet counters, load factory firewall
Screensaver:Show current version etc.
Skipstone: doesnt seem to have items as when I press it , goes back to Kindle page 1 of book title listings

Edit: I installed the backdoor extension and then turned it off
Edit 2: It has successfully updated to 3.4.2, then I turned the backdoor extension back on in Kual. However, Im pretty sure I originally installed without Kual so wondering if that will create a problem?
Edit 3: I uninstalled the one without Kual. All seems to be ok.
