A very un-important functionality wish
Sometimes when I fix metadata and/or is viewing some books, I start with searching for the author, series (or whatever). Every so often I get, besides those books I'm looking for, also some other books that matched the search.
At that time, it would be really nice to simply do a right-click and choose "hide temporary in current list" and it's gone (until I search again and/or clear the search field). Then I can save brain-fuel and only focus on those books I want to contemplate about or do something with. ![]() It's not vital by any means (and using the advanced search can probably minimize the hits, just not as easy), simply something that I would find helpful at times. ![]() --- And... for Calibre in general.... ![]() |

@patrik - I find these very useful for narrowing a search, they're also available via book list context menu Similar Books flyout - so an Alt+A will get you all books by the author of the current (selected) book
You can also limit the columns used in searching, see Preferences->Searching->What to search by default settings, Comments is one that many folks prefer to exclude BR |

Another way to do it related to theduck's suggestion: after the search, select all and use the Mark feature to temporarily mark each book (CTRL-M by default). You might want to clear all marks before the search. Then, as you go through the books, unmark the ones you don't want to see (again using CTRL-M) or that you have finished dealing with. Doing a search for marked books (CTRL-SHIFT-M by default) will show you the books you still need to look at.

Agreed. "Mark books" is one of Calibre's most useful features for "doing stuff" with unrelated sets of books. Mark the books that interest you, then use "Show marked books" to just display the ones you've marked. You can then carry out global operations on just the marked set.
