Home again, and glad to be here

Hello All !

I've been away for quite awhile, and thought it might be nice to re-introduce myself to the current attendees. Life does get in the way sometimes.

My name is Kathy, I live in Southwest Arkansas in the US. We are rural, as in 30 miles / minutes to the closest grocery store, over 125 to the nearest shopping mall.

I'm married, we have two sons at home, one graduating school, and enlisting in the military this summer, the other will be leaving the Public School system and resuming HomeSchooling to address learning and behavioral issues that can not be dealt with in the public system.

A good share of DS2's reading lists are now available in the Library. Thank all the Gods. I'm still searching out Public domain textbooks, readers, and other Non-Fiction fare to supplement our Curriculum.

We use a combination of Old-Fashioned Education (which uses McGuffey Readers, Ray's Arithmetic, etc...) and the Robinson & A-squared programs to round out the basics.

Are there any other HomeSchool / AfterSchool / SaturdaySchool / tutoring families around ? I'd love to connect, especially with ones outside the US. I'd like to broaden MY own horizons as well.

Glad to be back, and I hope to be able to participate more than I was able to last time I was here.

See you around,
Kathy

Thank you for a GREAT introduction!

(They teach 'em right in Arkansas. I know.)

Nice to "see" you gentlemen. Thanks for the warm well-come.

MickeyC - I remember you participating in some of the questions / discussions I had posted last time I was here.

Dr. Drib - are you teaching Conversational English to Spanish speakers, or Grammar, Composition & Literature to the kids of diplomats and foreign nationals in one of the specialized schools there? If it's none of my business, I appologize. Curiosity from the Kat. (I have an ulterior motive for asking) PS - LOVE the pipe, VERY distinguished !

Welcome back, Kathy (and great re-intro, none of that truncated "hi" stuff)!

This is the first time I have seen the Right Honorable J. R. "Bob" Dobbs described as "distinguished".

I taught at Abraham Lincoln College, but that was about 4 years ago.

I'm currently looking for a job, now that my son is 6 years old and no longer needs the constant attention. I also wanted to make certain that he speaks English, which he now does.

Ahhhh - But WHAT did you teach?

I am not familiar with that particular college, nor the specifics regarding education in Peru.

I can, however recommend a few sets of materials available at the extremely enormous expense of $ 0.00 + download & printing costs if you might happen to be interested.

Maybe we can exchange information sometime soon on education styles in Latin America / Peru vs. The Southern US & Homeschooling trends in the States.
