Should I keep Exchanging my Voyage to get one w/o Yellow/Blue Light Issue?

So I got my Voyage, and for the price, I love it.

But Im bothered with the yellow/blue gradient. While it's not as noticeable as some screens, it's definitely there, and I definitely feel like it bothers me. I may not even have noticed it if not for browsing the reviews, but I notice it now, and I want to make sure I get the best out of my money.


So I am in the process of exchanging it with Amazon, in the hopes that I get one without the issue.

But is that at all probable? And if not, are there examples of Voyages with both really bad gradient issues, and barely visible gradients?

I am incredibly curious to know if I should just settle, or keep hoping for a perfectly flawless colour tone.

Ive seen the pics with users who flip the middle of their screen in pictures to show the difference in colour, and I did the same and noticed the obvious shift in colour. I really just want to get rid of it, but want to know if what I am doing is in vain, or if I could at least get something that is simply less obvious.

I exchanged three Voyages for the same reason and at at the end got a Paperwhite in which that problem is not as bad or less likely to have it.

If you didn't even notice it until reading about the gradient, but now see it, then you'll probably never be happy. So either get yourself a tablet, or try a Paperwhite or a Kobo Aura H2O.

Do an image search on google for voyage gradient and see what pops up. I posted an image of mine a few months back (in this thread), it's not too bad but I can see it when reading in low lighting conditions. You won't find one that is perfect. IMHO you are more likely to find the most uniform screen in the PW3 or Kobo Aura HD, but then you lose out in other ways with them.

Mine has the light gradient, more yellow at the top. I can see it but after 6 months with it I don't consciously see it any more. Only you can decide if the benefits of the Voyage outweigh the gradient. I wouldn't trade mine for any other device.

I would consider trading it in for a paperwhite 3. But if im not mistaken, the lighting is even yellower and more splotchy so i think ill manage

Sucks so hard that a premium device NEVER got this issue fixed. Its crazy that they let it keep happening

I don't really rate the PW3, I had one but have sold it on. I use my Voyage at home and a PW2, which I prefer over the PW3 when out and about. In my experience the text on PW3's is lighter than both the other two devices.

I'm not sure this is really an issue for the vast majority of people. Its kind of the equivalent of the mother in law checking under the furniture for dust, look closely and you will always find something...

Kobo and other manufacturers produce front-lights without discoloration. I'm surprised Amazon has not fixed this by now.

The text is lighter than on the PW2? That surprises me. I can see no reason for it to be lighter.

I've read somewhere it's because of the higher resolution screen, the PW3 is 300 dpi, the PW2 212 dpi, that makes the font thinner and yes to me much lighter. It's that or I have an exceptionally good PW2

That could be an issue with the very restrictive font choice on the Kindles, especially if one's eye-sight is not the best. I still use bold Caecilia on a pearl screen and it's very clear.

You are mistaken. You still get some variance in the quality but it was only the original PW that suffered from a blotchy screen. Which is why I suggested trying either the PW3 or the Kobo Aura H2O (its a pity they've discontinued the Glo HD) as the light on them doesn't have any issues with gradients or splotches. The light on the PW tends to be a little bluer if anything (& the same with the Glo HD).

However, the clarity and sharpness of the text is far better on the Voyage, as JosieB says the text looks a little lighter on the PW. The screen on the H2O probably looks just as good, but it's a bigger 6.8" screen.
