Refurbished kindles

My Voyage encountered some problems so I asked Amazon for a replacement. I've had this for almost a year so they naturally sent me a refurbished one.

As I'm waiting for it, I'm wondering how many of these I'm going to have to go through. I remember with the Paperwhite, my original PW and a few replacements all had dead pixels, and it was a while until I finally got one with a good screen. The Voyage that's coming is a refurbished model, maybe that's better since it went through some more quality control, or maybe it's just a device someone returned because it had problems of its own.

Has anyone here ordered or been issued a refurbished kindle PW or Voyage? I'm mainly concerned about severe screen gradient or dead pixels/dust under the screen.

Why are they giving you a Refirb? Were they out of New one?
They told me when my New PW2 developed Bright White spots. They would send me a New replacement. They didn't. I returned in for my Money back. I suggest you get a refund & go buy a New one with the Money.
BTW When the New Voyage Guarentee runs out That's when the Refurb or Any replacement Guarentee runs out! You Don't get a Years Guarentee from the date you get the replacement. Its from the date you got the Orginal!

I bought my Voyage months ago, they're only compelled to replace it for a new one if the purchase date was within 30 days.

My PW was purchased & at 5 Months the bright lights developed. Amazon replaced it with a Refurbished PW. I returned for Full Refund. I was told I had 2 weeks to return it. At about a Month I contacted Amazon & requested the refund & got it. Tho I was told 2 weeks was the limit.
Whatever You asked I told you my opinion & what I did. This was last month. Rules don't change that quick!

They always (from what I have read) send refurbs as replacements, no matter what the CS person might say.

Solarin, I had them replace my Voyage after about 5 months, and my new one (refurbished but like new) is absolutely perfect.

Absolutely. Unless your Kindle is DOA when bought new, you'll always get a reburb as a replacement, and that's nothing to be concerned about.

Just curious...
I would understand a refurb after using for a while, but not if issues right out of box.

That is why my post, which you quoted, said "Unless your Kindle is DOA when bought new...". If your Kindle doesn't work when it's new, the replacement will be new.

I think, generally speaking, the replacement will be new if you are within the 30-day (?) return period. Once you're outside that period, the replacement will be a refurb.

I purchased a refurbished Voyage and outside of issues with the ads which they removed for me without my having to pay more the only issues I have is sometimes it spontaneously reboots. Screen is fine. I have had it for almost 4 months. This, however, is better than spontaneously freezing which occasionally my Kindle 3 does. I wouldn't worry about it. I had a replacement of a Kindle 3 with a refurbished model when the screen broke while still under warranty and it was perfect until I sat on it after warranty expired. Once they replace it they give you a new 1 year warranty or at least they did back then.

No, a replacement doesn't extend the warranty. If your original Kindle had 1 month left on its warranty, the replacement will only be covered by warranty for 1 month.

My 1st kindle my son accidently broke at 6 months old. Called CS on a Sunday On Monday they sent be a Brand New Kindle. While I Got new the Warrenty Ended 6 months later when the original kindle would have been a year old.
I say take the Money instead of another new or used one & BUY a New one with the refund.
