Calibre 2.48.0 and 2.49.0 "unsafe"
I am using 2.47.0 but when I tried to upgrade I got an "unsafe" warning notice. Any idea of the why ?

Probably because your OS is not able to verify SHA256 based digital signatures -- If you are on windows 7 and after make sure you have installed all windows updates. If you are on Vista, you are out of luck, you just have to ignore the warning.

Upgrade to 2.49.0
I ignored the warning and move up from 2.47.0 to the latest upgrade. I did had to save it to my computer and run it from there to be able to pass beyond the unsafe notice.

Unable to properly update from 2.49.0 to 2.50.0
I am still getting an "unsafe message" but, this time, after saving the 2.50.0 update set up to my VISTA Home Premium running portable and running it from my computer, I am running into a snag while trying to install the program.

That's strange, according to microsoft that function should be available in windows Vista https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx
I suggest downgrading to 2.49 for the moment. Lets see if any other vista users report problems. |

Uninstall 2.50 and install 2.49 all previous releases of calibre are linked to from the download page. Doing so will not affect your calibre books/settings/plugins.

trying to downgrade to 2.49.0
I uninstalled 2.50.0 from the control panel and tried to install back 2.49.0 using Windows 32-bits installer from:
http://download.calibre-ebook.com/2.49.0/ I again had to save it to my computer and run it from there to skip the unsafe notice. The process seems to complete but I cannot get the program to run even after a repair run from the control panel. Suggestion ? |

Hi,
I'm getting the exact same error and traceback after updating to 2.50. And if I Ok the error dialog the process hangs (it's listed in task manager, but no window shows). I'm also running Vista Business. Thanks |

I did a repair from the 2.49.0 setup and a full system restart.
Version 2.49.0 now seems to be working as it did. |

OK, I have removed that function (it was unused in any case). The change will be in 2.51

My suggestion is dumping the crap that is Vista and move to Windows 10.

I really wish you would stop telling people to change O/S. It's there choice, possibly involving hardware upgrades. Just because YOU are happy making the switch does not make it so for all users.

My suggestion is upgrade calibre to 2.50.1 and stop worrying about it.

Oh, wait. Windows Vista works fine and there is no justified reason to dump it. Stop proselytizing Windows 10, or maybe I will start matching you post for post with proselytizing for linux, how about that? ![]() |
