Replacement for Sony PRS 505

I am considering replacing my 505 which just had it's 8th birthday! I still really like it but the battery is rapidly declining.

What are good contenders to replace it?

Must have: e-ink, epub, good battery life

Desirable: Sd card slot

Not needed: Wifi, touchscreen, water resistance, backlight

Any suggestions?

(Buying location UK or Germany)

Another 505? I think you have to go that far back to get a reader without any of those features.

Just because a reader has Wifi doesn't mean you have to use it. I've never turned it on on my Sony T1 or T3. I also don't use the touchscreen except for selecting which book to read, both have page turn buttons.

I must say, I am in love with my T3. Best battery life in any reader I've ever had.

A Kobo is probably your best bet.

Two choices, you can get a Kobo Glo HD or Kobo Aura H2O to replace your 505 or you can get a new battery to replace the failing better at https://www.newpower99.com/Sony_Port...%20prs-505.htm

My opinion is to go with a Kobo as the Kobo is better than the 505.

You could look at trying to find a used Sony PRS T3, but they're few and far between in the UK (more likely to find an older T1). I think you just have to accept that the market has moved on and non-touch screen ereaders without a built in light, wi-fi and with SD card simply don't exist.

In Germany you have the Tolino brand of ereaders, or here in the UK either the basic Kobo Touch or Kobo Glo HD. I'd go with the Glo HD as it'll look so much better than your old Sony.

There's a good chance the battery on a T1 might not be up to much and I don't know where to get a replacement.

I do have an H2O and I do like it better than the T1 I was using.

Or the same 505? By very carefully replacing the battery. Watch both videos below, watching especially the care they take so as not to crimp the ribbon cable when taking off/putting on the shell.

Even though a battery replacement is probably doable on a 505, I really suggest getting a new(er) reader. The screens have gotten much better--with or without front light. I have an aging 505--hasn't been used in quite a while, but I do charge it up every once in a while. The screens on my other readers, including my old Sony PRS 650 have so much better contrast, that I'd hate to have to go back to the 505 as my main reader. YMMV, but I also find the touch screen to be very handy--not necessarily for turning pages, but for navigating menus and dictionary look up, etc.

I still have my old Sony ereader. Don't use it anymore but it still works. I used it in my classes with my students because it was more durable than the kindle or nook .

I use the nook glow light plus now.

The version of RSMDSK used on the 505 is very old. The version used on a Kobo is much newer and works a lot better.

I'd still go for Kobo.
