request for betatesters

Hello everyone,

My first post and already i'm asking for favors :-). I'm working on a fixed layout epub with media and asking for readers who like to help me out in finding out what works and not. It's not a real book, but a chapter taken from gutenberg just for testing. I don't know if i can link or attach.

Thanks in advance

If you are going for a fixed layout, it may be better and much easier to just create the book in LibreOffice Writer (create a page of the correct size and correct margins), and then export to PDF.

PDF is a file format specifically created for fixed layout/printable documents, while EPUB is a format created for reflowable text and media. You CAN create a reflowable PDF, and you CAN create a fixed layout EPUB, but I think it's easier to do it the other way around.

Is there some specific reason you want to use EPUB? One of them could be that you are creating a document for use on a device that does not read PDF.

Thread moved out of General Discussion Forum, which is for "General discussions about e-book reading not specific to a device, software or format."

Please take the time to look over our site before indiscriminately making a post.

Thank you.

My bad. I was having problems deciding where to post it, but I probably didn't make it clear enough that i was hoping for reviewers of my epub and not starting a discussion about software or format.
Since I have your feedback I like to ask for another one. What is most smiled upon; linking to an epub or attaching it to a post?

I'm fascinated with interactive ebooks and not so much with just reading ebooks. I'm testing epubs with javascript, mediaqueries, audio and video. Fonts is for later. So pdf won't fit the bill.

If I am understanding you:

If you want a review of a book you have written, then you should ask me to move your thread to the Writers' Forum. Since links are not allowed - we consider it spam to link to your ebook - you can ask members to PM you and contact you in that fashion and you can carry on a conversation PM to PM rather than post what would otherwise be taken for spam in that forum.

If you are asking for help and advice with coding, then the thread should NOT be in the Writers' Forum. Use PM-to-PM to carry on your conversation.

But according to the OP, it is:

So I would say he/she doesn't want feedback on the content, but on the format/features, and it's probably OK to discuss it here (or in Workshop), and to attach the file (as long as it doesn't include other copyrighted material).

But that's only my personal opinion.

Let's start over:

If you ARE talking about features and format:

1) If you are working on a book that you 'acquired' and it IS copyrighted, then you may discuss it here, BUT DO NOT UPLOAD IT, OR YOUR WILL BE BANNED.

2) If you are working a on a book that is NOT copyrighted, then you may discuss it here.

3) Any hint of self-promotion is NOT allowed. We consider that spam, and we deal with spammers in the harshest way possible. Translation: Goodbye.

For any further clarification, please PM me.

Thank you for your understanding.

Let's clarify my position. It's not about the book, because it isn't a book and it isn't about the content either. Which isn't mine and not copyrighted. It is about the features of the epub.
Since it has caused some controversy I will fire up a website and ask readers to PM me for a link.
Thanks for the response
