I had a member help me figure it out Hit T on any ebook epub and then go to the "editors" preferences as follows In order to access them, you need to add any epub, press T, then go to Edit > Preferences > Integration with Calibre > Update metadata embedded in the book when opening... and UNCHECK IT This worked and there is no new calibre code on exiting without saving Thanks every one for quick polite help Last edited by zaqqaz000; 12-31-2015 at 11:36 AM. |

That is correct -- since we are discussing the Editor, not the Library, the Preferences are located in the Editor, not the Library.

@zaqqaz000 - FYI - the Library Manager, the Book Editor and the Book Viewer are discrete programs. . . calibre, ebook-editor and ebook-viewer respectively.
The Editor and Viewer programs can and are used directly from the OS (i.e. not via the Library Manager) hence their preferences must be maintained separately. BR |

I am a little confused on this issue.
If I run the EDITOR from within the LIBRARY: -plugins are accessible in the EDITOR. -set(a) of snippets is available. -set(a) of Regex Formulas is available. However, if I run the EDITOR from the command line: -plugins are NOT accessible in the EDITOR, I guess plugins just don't work. -set(a) of snippets is NOT available, of course I can record a new set. -set(a) of Regex Formulas is NOT available, of course I can record a new set. So I guess that personal information is recorded differently for the two scenarios. Are they recorded in separate files? Where are these files? Can I edit these files? I haven't checked, but I assume the READER performs in a similar manner. I am just hoping to understand this a little better. |

@Thom* - what you describe doesn't happen here - Windows 10, calibre 2.48
I don't use any editor plugins, but I do have a couple of my own snippets and saved searches in calibre editor, and a quick test shows they're available if I edit from the library, Windows File Manager Open With, or the command line. Similarly the Viewer seems to have access to recent searches irrespective of how it's started. My configuration folder is not in default location, it's redirected via the relevant environment variable - but I wouldn't think that would have any effect, one way or the other. Or perhaps something in your CLI environment is either setting or clearing the relevant environment variable. (calibre-portable.exe has only one purpose, and that is to invoke calibre.exe after setting that environmnt variable.) I can promise you, it is beyond all doubt that it doesn't matter how you start the Editor or Viewer. But it does matter whether you overrode the location of the config directory. |

Yes, I use calibre-portable.exe.
If I understand correctly, by starting with calibre-portable.exe I am specifying the environment variable and the location of the config directory. And the specified location of the config directory is on my thumb drive. On the other hand, if I start calibre.exe or ebook-edit.exe or ebook-viewer.exe directly from the command line, then I am bypassing the step to specify the environment so the default environment is used. And that default environment is on my hard drive. Brilliant! (I only use that word because I am deep into a British novel. How dumb.) Well thank you for the explanation, I think it cleared up a few things for me. Let me know if I seem to misunderstand. |
