Strange Search Problem
The oddest thing just happened when trying to do a Search & Replace.
I like to put in my own section breaks on fanfiction, so they are all uniform, so I copied what the author had in one particular area, but when I press 'find' I get that the item can't be found (attached below). I've also completely retyped it in the text to see, copied and pasted, and it still won't find it. What have I missed that I can't see?? I also tried once with Regex selected, just in case, since that is an non-breaking space. I also changed the non-breaking space to a regular space, copied, and it doesn't want to find that either. Tried selecting to right after the closing tag, and selecting to the next line, and selecting to after the following sentence of text, all with no difference. The only thing I haven't tried (that I can think of), is to close the editor and try again, which is my next step...Nope, same thing, tells me there are no matches. |

Should mention, everything else I've tried searching in this same document has worked as expected.

There are more than one type of space
Only a HEX editor can tell you the dif ![]() make a Set out of the spaces you find a,b,c,d are pasted from the spaces you found If the existing search list fails, copy and paste the space you want to replace into the range. the REGEX \s might be to harsh |

I did later manage to get it to find that, but only by changing 'All Text Files' to 'Current File'. Why would searching current file match the character, while searching the exact same thing, nothing else changed, with all text NOT match? Since I can't recreate it -- even by copying it into another epub!! -- it will have to remain an odd occurrence I suppose. I've been experiencing lots of weirdness lately with the search panel...just lucky I guess : ![]() Last edited by MerlinMama; 01-04-2016 at 09:59 AM. |

Wrap is off and you are on the wrong side.
And Yes! I have also seen longer searches balk. Usually they include more than 1 line of code. The difference in indent trips a simple paste, up . But not always. Sometime, I just restart the editor and all is Now good ![]() Beautify the code (the pink flower) and see if that helps with the file working only in some sectionsl |

I was having that problem until I figured out that special characters were causing my problem.
I stopped using copy and paste for my search to fill my seach criteria and started using selected text and Ctrl-F. How sweetly Calibre places the requisite \ in front of the special characters when you use Ctrl-F. Since I made the change I have not had the problem. Also, Ctrl-F is easier to use than Copy and Paste and it automatically opens the search panel if it happens to be closed. Last edited by Thom*; 01-04-2016 at 10:49 AM. Reason: Addition |

Your image claims that you were searching only in style files.

I always double-check when things don't work (how many times I needed Regex and it was on Normal), so I'm *fairly* certain, just not positive anymore. Who knows, maybe my brain figured "not Current, not Marked, it's the right option." ![]() Wrap is on?? @Thom* - I actually never thought of trying \ in front of the space. Might have been good to try...Thanks for the suggestion of Ctrl+F, I'll definitely keep it in mind. |

1. 'Special characters are tinted a little bit yellow (at least on my PC). If you look at the first and second <p> the space is tinted on the second since it's a non-breaking space
2. One thing that I find very helpful is the lower right box that tells me what the character just before the cursor really is. |
