Explain Grouping

I really am at a lost on what the Grouping option is for CC. I only use it for searching when I cannot find the title by scrolling through the book I have added. What is the benefit for grouping? Is there a way to add a "Book Read" tag using CC?

I admit I love CC because I can easily add books via wireless and then read them in MoonReader which in my opinion is so much better than reading something using the Kindle book app on my Fire.

You can find it in Settings ==> Marking book as Read. This tag, if you choose to do so, will be synced with Calibre.
I do it all the time.

Grouping in CC serves the same purpose as the tag browser (the left-side pane) in calibre. In calibre, if you click on some item (a tag, an author, a series, etc) in the tag browser then you see the books with that item. The same in CC: you can tap some item and see books only with that item. Also in CC, if you long-press on an item you get something similar to a calibre virtual library. The book list is restricted to showing only books matching the long-pressed item, even if you tap other items.

Elaborating on nqk's response, see the Marking books read and syncing that information with calibre section in CC's FAQ.

Thanks chaley & nqk I did not realize that.

Chaley thanks for the website with the FAQ's. That will be very helpful and I have it bookmarked.

One last question chaley is it possible for have CC automatically delete a book when syncing after it has been read?

No, not automatically. However, it is very easy to do from calibre while connected. Assuming your "read" column has a lookup key of #read, the steps are:
  1. Connect your devices to calibre as a wireless device. Let the connection stabilize (metadata exchange, syncing, etc).
  2. In calibre, do a search for "ondevice:true and #read:yes". All books it find are candidates for deletion.
  3. Use Ctrl-A (or whatever Select All is on your OS) then hit the Delete button/key.
  4. Calibre will ask you if you want to delete books in the library, books on the device, or both. Pick "on device".
  5. Calibre will show you a list of books that it will delete from the device. If you agree, press OK. Calibre will "talk" to CC to delete the books from CC's library.
Another way to do it more automatically is to use the Reading List plugin. You could make a list that is "auto-populated" using the #read column, and is further setup to delete the books in the list from the device when connecting. Books would be automatically deleted from the device on the next connect after they are marked as read. Personally, I wouldn't do this because of paranoia -- I want to be involved in decisions about deleting books, but you might prefer not being bothered.

Thanks so much Chaley. I greatly appreciate all your help. I think I understand but I may have questions later.
