can I buy kindle books from .com although my account is with amazon.ca

My friend just gave me 60 dollar amazon.com giftcard. I want to use it to buy kindle ebooks. but my kindle account is with amazon.ca.

so here are my questions
1: can I apply .com giftcard to my amazon.ca account?
2: Can I buy kindle ebook from amazon.com and deliver to my amazon.ca account, therefore I can download to my kindle?

If neither works, I just buy some stuff from amazon.com

Thanks in advance

I don't know the ins and outs of all that but I suspect you're going to have difficulty. My suggestion is to call Amazon support and find out what you can or can't do.

I don't know about the first question, but regarding the number two, you can do this. I have a .com.br account and I have already downloaded free ebooks from .com and .fr; then I think it is possible.

You will need a valid address at the United States that you will use to register your current Amazon account in the .com site. After you change to .com site, you will only be able to buy things in this site, unless you change back to .ca.

2) Not sure, here's my recent experience:

I wanted to purchase a 0.99 CAD deal during Black Friday/Cyber Monday, but because my Kindle library is linked to my amazon.com account, it wouldn't let me purchase the ebook in CAD. I got that message to transfer your library to the Canadian site, which I never saw a reason to do. I had to log into the US site and complete the purchase in USD.

This is using Kindle for PC, I don't have a Kindle device - not sure if there's any differences.

Based on that experience, I think the answer to 1) is no.

Follow up question, because I think some Canadians here maintain separate US and CAD accounts (two different emails/libraries/accounts):

If I register a new amazon.ca account to purchase in CAD, does that still work with the Kindle for PC associated with my amazon.com content? I don't own a Kindle. Or would I have to install on a second device to truly keep everything separate?

I haven't dealt with giftcards but you can switch to .com and then back to .ca fairly easily without changing your country (at the top of the change country page it says "Click here to learn more about other Amazon sites you are eligible to shop at...")

Without changing countries you wouldn't be able to buy books through .com that can't be bought through .ca but I would expect that the gift certificate could be used.

Now I know for a fact that if you put that 60 USD gift card on your CA account, you will get whatever 60 USD is worth in what is your dollar called.

I'm afraid that's not true. Gift certificates are specific to an Amazon store. You cannot use an "amazon.com" gift certificate at "amazon.ca", or vice versa.

Oh wait. Never mind. That was when I already owned a book the author gifted me. They gave me a gift card for what he had paid for the book.
