Library structure on PC and on Device
Team,
I've tried to find an answer but was not able to. Let me explain, I've changed the rule to create the folders from the default one to this one (in the help): {author_sort}/{series:||/}{series_index:|| - } {title} as it suites me better to keep my books ordered when there are series. Now the issue is that if I sync the books BEFORE I search or edit the metadata they are put in a certain folder. How do I have them been put in the correct folder AFTER I've updated the metadata? The only way I've found is to delete them from the ebook reader and re upload the book. But this is bad as I lose the reading position, notes, etc... Can you help me? If the function is not there it would be really great to have a function like "re-order books" on the device if the path rule changes or the metadata changes. The second point (less critical) is on the library structure on the PC. I cannot change the structure (i.e. add the number and series)? thank you M |

What I don't get is folks don't understand that calibre is basically a database. Why would you worry about how the data is stored in the database? You have a front-end and tools to manage the data. Don't worry about how things look under the skirts.

So it would be perfect to be a database AND a tool to manage files and structures. In fact Calibre does not only sotre the metadata but even moves files, creates new files etc... so it would be lovely to have the two parts of it's core aligned ![]() |

metadata_db_prefs_backup ti reconstruct the Structure and in each title folder: metadata.opf and cover.jpg to put the Details (record) back into the DB This is not proof against you destroying metadata with a serious misstep with the All (or a goodly number) using bulk mode S&R. If you shut down Calibre immediately, only a few dozen of those metadata.OPF will have been refreshed. Simply rebuild using the CLI calibredb restore_database [options] Kovid really did think this through ![]() |

Slightly
![]() @theducks -- a new feature I have been looking at in source, "Export all calibre data". Sounds interesting? |

It lists the libraries and their sizes in a special dialog and asks you to select which ones you want exported.
Then it pops up an error. ![]() EDIT: Yeah, feature still in development. The fact that it was wired to the GUI already was what tricked me. ![]() In other news, there won't be a release this week, until it's done. Last edited by eschwartz; 12-17-2015 at 11:51 PM. |
