My Weird Kindle Voyage

Well, I hope I'm not the one who blindly thrust out any trivial questions to kindle fans before contacting with Amazon-----But Amazon had proved its complete uselessness. It's a story so weird that I do believe most of you guys won't believe it. But anyway, let's get start.

It was after the update of fw 5.6.5, and then my kv could not load the sdr file from cloud server. Usually when you download a book from cloud, no matter azw3 or mobi, the correspondent sdr would come with book so you can keep reading from where you stopped last time. But after update everytime I download a book, it's all stripped of the sdr, so everybook will start from the first page. I asked Amazon for help, got multiple reply asking me to report the problem and telling me some easy tricks like restarting kindle and then nothing.

Then I bought a CreepyPasta book and guessed what----the cover of that ghost book became my lock screen wallpaper----everytime I flip open my kindle I saw the F*** ghost eyes staring at me.(http://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/...al-text&sr=1-2) I tried to return the book, and delete the sample. But eachtime I deleted the sample, the next day it appeared again, just like the annabelle doll. I got so freaked out and asked Amazon for help, got multiple reply asking me to report the problem and telling me some easy tricks like restarting kindle and then nothing. Finally I figured out the way to get rid of it----delete the sample, and then switch my acoount to other countries, and this time annabelle doll never came back.

But this is not the end. Soon I found out the special order went berserk----probably became I switched between different countries. anyway, it just randomly rolled out ads for different regions with different languages. I asked Amazon for help, got multiple reply asking me to report the problem and telling me some easy tricks like restarting kindle and then nothing.

Till now, I found kv couldn't fetch x-ray and word wise for my side-loaded books---books that I bought and downloaded from Amazon, put directly into kindle. Finally I decided I had enough of this. I reset my kv, and then a new problem apperaed---maybe a blessing, perhaps. there is no more multi-country ads, in fact, there is no ads at all------my kv is a discount version and I did not ask Amazon to remove my ads. Even though the rest problem still present, but at least I feel a bit of relief. This time I won't contact Amazon for restoring my ads, even though I DO BELIEVE greedy amazon will fix this for me quick and easy.

How did you reset your kindle?
Did you do a factory reset or did you simply restart it?
Also most kindle books are set to open to the first reading page.
I have no idea what you mean by an sdr file.
As to your other problems, did you hack or attempt to jailbreak the device?

sdr file is something that kindle remembered your reading position and notes. When you bought a book, read half of it, took some notes on it, then remove it from device, next time you downloaded it again you could still get your reading progress and notes you took last time. For me this basic service is now unaccessible. I never jb my device, it just went berserk after 5.6.5 update. Reset is factory reset.

It used to be the mbp file, and it was never downloaded, so the last page read must have been saved some other way. Are you sure you aren't talking about the sdr directory, not a file?

None of the sidecar files will ever show up for sideloaded books. That's just the way it is.

To OP: did you register your kindle after the reset? Until you register it, the kindle does not know if it is a special offers version and defaults to no ads.

If you did re register, it's possible that with all the hassles you had regarding ads, Amazon turned off the ads for you free of charge. When you reset and re registered, your new ad free status kicked in and now you no longer get ads.

Yeah I did register and the ads were gone like magic. I'm 100% sure I did not contact Amazon for ads issues just maybe Santa really exist.

Yeah mbp or sdr, what I'm referring is the very directory appeared after you put a book in kindle, which contains some files for saving your reading progress. The problem was if I download a book from cloud, a correspondent directory will be made, but nothing in it. Maybe it was just a rare os bug.
