Prediction from 2002
I was just digging around in some very old threads and found an interesting prediction and poll from just over 8 years ago.

Great find! Interesting reading people's thoughts on what E-ink would bring to the game.

What a blast from the past! I think iPad and Nook Color fulfilled all of their predictions.

Of corse Alex is still here, but wouldn't it be nice to get updates from some of those original members?

That's pretty cool, especially in regards to news-related content, considering newspapers are in massive trouble overall right now due directly to e-content. Also, hooray for eink

You want prediction? Check out this thread from 2008:
Prediction: Apple Will Announce a new ebook reader near the end of February https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=20637 SPOILER ALERT: Apple did not announce a new eBook reader in February, 2008. However: "To be honest, if Apple made a device it would be some kind of LCD screen, so I don't really see the point of waiting for one when we all know that E-ink devices are better " "Hehe, sorry about that PilotBob. I don't think Apple is going to touch the book market at all. They're obsessed about video and audio and the web. They may make a bigger version of the ipod at some point, but there is such a saturation in the netbook market right now. It just doesn't make sense, even though I think they would do a superb job at making one." "Personally I don't think dedicated reading devices will be around all that long. When the screen technology gets better, they will be multifunction. They'll be ultraportable tablets and people will be using them for all sorts of things including reading. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple made a device like that since it has way more mass-market appeal." "Yes, dedicated readers will be along. Every multifunctional device that is portable needs to be small. So - perhaps your average 5'' reader will be integrated into your mobile with a rollable screen. But your 9,7'' or even A4 device with touchscreen - there is (and will stay to be) a market for those devices." They even predicted Trump's tweet style: "Still no iSlate. Just another iPhone. (sad) " |

I agree that older people are often more reluctant to change. It's always been that way. Copernicus theory of the solar system wasn't accepted because he was right so much as because those unwilling/unable to change their thinking had passed away. Ebooks are here to stay.
