font ramp larger text size paperwhite

So I tried the FONT_RAMP larger text size on my Kindle Paperwhite and had mixed results with Calibre. I just wanted to post it here because I hadn't read it although I don't spend a lot of time on these boards so I don't if this is true or not.

When I convert my book in Calibre I use Mobi. I use base font size 32 font. That's just a guesstimate. That seemed to make my font in the next to largest size readable to me rather than the default. (I have bad eyesight)

What happened when I used FONT_RAMP with the base font size 32 font and the AZW3 format I ended up with a LOT of different fonts to choose from.

The only problem was - there was some odd spacing. That I couldn't live with. My eyesight wasn't bad enough to deal with. The AZW3 wasn't edge to edge.

But I guess if you were between what I am and the next up it might be worth it. I am reading Helvetica for what it's worth. And I am on the 6th display setting of print. The next (7) is just like 10 words per page.

The FONT_RAMP setting at 32 base font size in Calibre had a much more higher range. I actually had to scale my book down farther. But I had a margin on the right hand side of the book that I didn't like. Not to mention that I had__a___weird formatting___problem__like this__that I just___couldn't get over.

Can you stand spaces like that in between your words? I couldn't. Which is why I went back to Mobi instead of AWZ3. The 32 is a guess. 28 might work. 30 might work. I don't know. I do know I have tried it larger and it didn't make any difference. I wish it did!

Well, I see the spaces don't translate to the forum. I used ____ to make it show up instead.

There is a plugin for Calibre to add in hyphens to your KF8 eBook. Try converting to AZW3 and use the hyphenation plugin to create hyphens. This way you should not get such wide gaps.
