Does Amazon offer a service to replace a battery

I have a friend that would prefer not to replace their own battery to their Kindle. I think she has a 4th generation. Does Amazon have a send-in service and if so, how much for them to replace the battery?

Not that I have seen.
On occasion, Amazon will offer a discount for a new one.

Amazon doesn't offer such a service. There are third party services across the country that offer battery replacement for cell phones, tablets & other gadgets. Many of them will do Kindle battery replacement so that may be their best bet if they don't want to do it themselves.

The K4 has a glued-in battery which is very, very difficult to replace without destroying the device.

Thank you all for your input.

Today I found out its actually a Kindle 3. A bit older than I thought.

I will pass your information on to her. It appears its time for a new Kindle. She is not about to be opening it to change a battery and I only do these operations on my own devices in case I cause an oops and cannot recover from it.

Well, if she's going to have to buy another one in either situation, you can always offer to attempt to replace it, as long as she knows it's possible it might damage the reader.

Of course, I don't know the price of the replacement battery....it might be about the same price to just buy a new reader.

I suggest watching the video at NewPower99 to see if you feel you could replace the Kindle 3 battery. If so, you can buy the battery and the tools there and do it yourself.

The K3's battery is very easy to replace, should she decide to do so.

UPDATE: I plugged her Kindle into a 2.5 amp 5v charger for a couple hours. She then charged it off her PC overnight. These two factors kicked/jolted the battery back to life. She is now again able to use it. We are watching now how long the battery lasts on a charge.

Did she let it go all the way flat? Not good for batteries like this. I was wondering why her battery was bad already. The battery in my old K2 is going fine.

She did and it flatlined. I told her (after the deed was done) that periodical charging keeps them going for a long time. I'l still using my Sony PRS-650 and the battery appears to be fine. But I also charge it every couple of months when it sits there.

Day 2 and her Kindle battery seems to be fine.
