Question about Library Management restore

Using latest version of calibre

I was playing around with the new tag mapper and accidentally blew away majority of my tags

I had tweaked most of the tags as I had been adding the books.

I'm just wondering if the restore database will put back only my tags or all the original tags that came with the book

I'm also assuming if I made corrections to some book titles when they got added changes would be lost?

if it only stores the unedited version I may want to re-tag another way.

Thanks
D

Shuffling in an old DB after any Author or Title change will leave those as errors when you Check Library.
OTOH the rest should be restored.

BUT the backup metadata.opf will be stale

1)restore the DB
2)run Library maintenance and fix the errors
3)run Library Metadata Backup Status: Queue all books for...

@dcpyke - tags are stored in the database (metadata.db) in the library folder. Restore database probably wont work, its purpose is to Recover a broken/corrupt database - it uses the metadata.opf files you'll see in the book folders - that's their only purpose.

Your changes were legitimate so the changes to metadata.db file would have also been written to the individual book metadata.opf files.

Hence a Restore database is unlikely to recover your lost tags.

Do you have a backup of your library? If so that's probably your best way to recover - providing its reasonably recent? Or do you have your library on a e-reader device?

I suggest you create a test library for experimenting with new features.

*test library - usually I would have done this or did a backup first but I thought I was trying out the rules on a couple of books instead of all of them.

Thanks for the responses, sounds like I'd make thing worse going with recover.
