Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) Best Thing I Never Had [Friendship Reunion Dramedy]

The Best Thing I Never Had by British author Erin Lawless is her standalone contemporary friendship reunion drama/comedy novel with f/m romantic elements, starring former male and female university friends who fell apart for various reasons getting back together for the upcoming wedding of one of the couples among them, with the obligatory journeys of self-discovery and uncovering and resolving all the past grievances and regrets etc., free courtesy of publisher HarperCollins UK's HarperImpulse imprint.

This is categorized under New Adult Romantic Comedy in one or two stores, but the blurb specifically likens it to particular recent popular poignant litfic family/friendship-oriented second chances novels (it really likes to push the David Nicholls mentions), and it's told from the viewpoints of all the seven friends, both male and female, so YMMV. It does seem to be a bit on the chick-lit side, since there's a bunch of quoted editorial praise from chick-lit review outlets, but it's not specifically marketed as that, either.

Currently free @ B&N UK, Amazon UK, iTunes UK, and Kobo (available to the UK, as well as Japan and South America when I spot-check assorted regional stores). Probably also free at Google Play for UK/JP/SA and any other eligible countries.

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) ebook thread of the day.

A little by default, but I kind of like the idea of a (maybe) chick-lit novel that also has non-romantic scenes from male perspectives for variety, as much as I'd like the reciprocal idea of some sort of laddishness-heavy sports adventure thing doing the same for participating non-WAG action girls within it, so bonus points.

Enjoy!

Description
Funny, sad and honest, if you're excited about David Nicholls' Us, this is the book for you.

‘So much more than a love story, more of a life story.’

Five years ago at university they had been seven friends that laughed hard and loved harder.

Nicky and Miles were the couple that were always meant to be… Leigha and Adam, not so much…

So when Adam and Harriet grew close during endless days in the library, they did the one thing that changed everything – they kept a secret. And when it came out, it all fell apart.

When the day comes for bridesmaids to be chosen and best men to fulfil drunken promises, Nicky and Miles’ wedding isn’t just a wedding, it’s a reunion – loaded with past hurts, past regrets, past loves…

The Best Thing I Never Had is in turns funny and sad, but always honest, about friendship in all its forms and the practicality of second chances.

If you fell in love with Mhairi McFarlane’s You Had Me at Hello and David Nicholls’ One Day, then this stunning debut book is for you.
