So if I want to contribute code to MadShelf how do I do it? Can it be compiled and tested on an ordinary Linux machine? Is it git that sould be used?

Yes, it can. Get a git from https://github.com/dottedmag/madshelf/tree

If you're not IRC person, then there's a mailing list. But please do not use such an idiocy as forums - they are HUGE inconvenience.

I agree that forums are inconvenient. This forum is the only one I have found useful.
