Comments and TextMarker Function in Calibre?

Hello Forum,

maby you know the "Comments" and "TextMarker" -Function with Kindle Paperwhite (i dont know if also other readers have this possiblity).

1.
On problem is, that this function is limited to a very small amount of marked passages. But i always mark a lot of text! Is this limitation off, when the book has no DRM?

2.
When i mark some text in a DRM Free book on my Kindle, can i see the marked or commented text also in Calibre, after a sync?

3.
Does also Calibre PC Reader allow a textmarker and comment function in the programm on my pc? How?

4.
Is it possible to read an mark on my pc (calibre) and then sync again to kindle paperwhite and then also mark text and make comments? Will all this infos about textmarked passages and comments will be synced?

5.
Which programm for Android can i use additionaly also to read, comment and textmark my ebooks in sync with calibre and kindle paperwhite?

Please help! I hope you understand what i want to say.

Yes, this is something enforced by the DRM. Books without DRM, or which have had the DRM stripped, do not have that limitation.

Yes, using the calibre plugin "Annotations".

Not currently, although it does support bookmarks.
However, there is currently a massive rewrite of the Content Server underway, when it is finished the Content Server will also include an in-browser ebook-viewer, and it is expected the ebook-viewer will be upgraded to support annotations.

See above...

You can sync annotations between your Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle for Android app.
Other apps may offer annotations capabilities, but they cannot sync with Amazon's servers to get access to your Paperwhite annotations.

...is this the lates version? Cause its from 17.6.2014
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=241206

...can this plugins only be installed in form of a download in import or is there also a "app-store" in calibre? And how do people know, that there is no male- or spyware included?

...for a beginner with calibre! What are "the" or "your" BEST CALIBRE PLUGINS?

That is indeed the source of the plugin, and you can install it manually or, since it is part of the Index of Plugins, you can right-click on Preferences, and select "Get plugins to enhance calibre" -- calibre will download and install the plugin for you.

...

My favorite plugins?
Well, it depends on what you need.
I like the OverDrive Link plugin, which lets me know what library books are owned by my libraries, when they will be available, etc. -- based on the books I already have.
Quality Check, allows you to find common problems with ebook metadata.
Kindle Collections -- in tandem with one of two Kindle hacks, allows you to manage collections on your Kindle, using calibre and calibre's metadata.

Those are the highlights for me.

If you use the Get Plugins feature ( On the Preferences Menu), those PI come from here at MR.

These are almost always Python (txt) code (inside the Zip), so you can have a code review if you want.

And how long do you think something Nasty would remain posted here

BTW if you (or anyone) ever did find something bad (or funky), use the Report button next to the Message #. The Moderation team will review the situation

@theducks -- apparently that isn't good enough for everyone do you know debian considers the MobileRead plugin index to be a malware hole and they patch calibre to remove the plugin updater/installer?

Apparently the fact that
  • no one has ever posted a malware plugin,
  • and the fact that community members use every plugin on the list,
  • and the developers are mostly longstanding, trusted members
  • and the active nature of the moderators in managing the list

are not good enough for them, because they don't have code-signed approval, or maybe because they are terrified of MITM attacks.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=640026

So typical debian, "this is pretty crap WRT security"...
"and should be disabled" rather than maybe mentioned upstream, since they have so many bright ideas.

Oh noes. What if calibre's website were hacked?

Actually, I am now tempted to file a debian bugreport, just to see what they do.

Geez, disable two fundamental features of the application due to security paranoia, sure why not?
