I want the image cover.jpg as a cover image, but not to lose the current as cover page designated page (should appear after the cover image as normal page).

Copy that file (or split the file) and place it in a new file AFTER the cover.
Then use Tools ==> Add cover.

The current file will become a regular part of the book. You cannot have two covers.
(The cover page must match the cover image.)

cover the image filename does not mean it is 'The cover image', nor the coverpage. To be recognized as a 'Cover', the pages semantics must be set as well as the image filename. THERE can only be 1 'cover' set (they must both be declared)

All other images are just images, even if they look like a cover
