Hey everybody,
Can anyone with a 2014 Kindle Glare-Free please help me out with something? I love reading newspapers in pdf format on my computer and Iphone, but I'm not sure if with this particular model of Kindle I could do the same thing without having to crop/adjust/calibre etc. the file (which would be time consuming ![]() Can someone with this model pm me so I could send a file and tell me if its "readable" on their device ? I would be very thankful and return the favor !!! Many Thanks !! |

Which Kindle would that be
![]() The 2014 models I believe would be the Kindle Voyage (KV) and the currently latest "Basic" model (KT2) See Kindle Serial Numbers for ID'ing different devices and their standard nicknames. It all depends on the quality of the PDF. If the PDF is fitted to the dimensions of the screen (800 x 600, 167 ppi), then all will be well. If not, you will want to take a look at k2pdfopt. ... If you jailbreak the device, you can run KOReader on it, which includes parts of k2pdfopt and will reflow the PDF on-the-fly. Last edited by eschwartz; 10-09-2015 at 01:23 PM. |

Hi eschwartz,
Thanks for checking my post ! I used the official Amazon name ![]() ![]() The thing with these multi column text and image pdf newspapers is that you have to crop each section you are interested in . I combine scissors, briss, pdf masher etc ![]() I use K2pdf when the cropping done beforehand is close to the real deal. I've seen a youtube review for the 2014 Basic and was pleased to see that you can zoom a 2 column image and table pdf on the device just like on an Ipone. And I was wondering how the Kindle would present my newspaper pdf without me having to adjust it beforehand. The pdf is ok, very crisp text, you can highlight words. It's not like an image pdf or scan Last edited by EconStudent; 10-09-2015 at 01:42 PM. |

But I still think you should make sure any PDF has been resized/cropped to the dimensions of the target screen. Keep in mind that pretty much no E-Ink device does a truly good stock PDF viewer. Something like KOReader is vastly preferable. And E-Ink is slow when it comes to panning around images and PDFs. |

I was pretty surprised to see in that review that the Kindle Basic 2014 can handle a 80 mb pdf quite nicely when it came to zooming and moving around the page
So, can anyone with a Kindle 2014 Basic willing to help please raise their hand ![]() |

Do you own that particular kindle? Or are you asking should you buy one?
For what it is worth, I hate trying to read any pdfs on an e-ink. |

I do not own one yet, but I intend to buy one if can manage to read pdf newspapers on it without having to crop each article individually (which might take as 40 min per day ). And of course without having to subscribe

Yey...goodie
![]() Here are the files Please tell me if you can zoom in enough to read Nr 1, or highlight words and use the dictionary. Can the Kindle handle a fairly smooth transition from page to page or when using zoom ? With Nr 2 you should not be able to do the highlighting but please tell me if its readable using zoom. Here are the files Files deleted by moderator due to copyright infringement. This is me like right now ![]() I'm kipping my fingers crossed Last edited by HarryT; 10-10-2015 at 07:54 AM. |

I was able to zoom in enough to read both files. In my opinion it wasn't pleasant, but it was do-able. (Understand that I don't normally read PDFs on my Kindle, so what is unpleasant to me may be perfectly normal to you) I was not able to highlight words at all, for either PDF. Once zoomed in, transition to the next page was fairly easy--I had to double-tap the page to return to original size, and then tap the right side of the screen and the page turned. On the new page, I had to zoom back in. All in all, it was about what I expected--not overly pleasant, but possible. Of course, I think it's still easier than reading a paper newspaper on a train. When you read a PM, there is a blue "Reply" button under the message.
