Mac OS 10.4, Adobe Digital and eReadders
This question may have been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the answers I need.
Which version(s) of ADE will run on Mac OS 10.4? Will any versions of ADE "see" a Sony eReader in OS 10.4? Will any Sony Reader App Setup (the one in the Settings folder) install on OS 10.4? I thought I read somewhere that if an eReader has been authorized by ADE on PC, and then if you login to ADE on a Mac with the same DRM ID, then you can sideload books downloaded in ADE on the Mac to the eReader that had been authenticated on the PC. When i try to do that the books don't open, and instead get the "Protected Be DRM" warning. I installed ADE 1.7. I've tried to sideload the books onto a PRS-350 and a T3 with the same results. The Set-up app on both readers gave the same message: "this app will not run on this OS." Buggers...!! |

Can I just clarify that you mean 10.4 (Tiger) - ten years old - and not 10.10.4?

Yep. Old Powerbook. 10.4.11. ADE runs fine. Using Overdrive.com to checkout books from library works fine. Reader icon showing up on desktop and sideload works fine. Just getting the "DRM protected" warning intstead of being able to open the book on my reader. And ADE doesn't see the reader...

Have you tried yoinking out the file on your Powerbook and running Alf's tools over it to circumvent the problem? |

I found Alf's Applescript software and will try it...
When you say de-auhorise the re-authorise... Are you suggesting doing so for ADE on my PC and Mac to try and get them to use the same ID? And to be clear, my readers are not technically authenticated on my Mac, they are just mountable by USB... |

Here is a link to the Sony Reader support page (Canada version which has the T-3).
http://esupport.sony.com/CA/p/select...pl?PRODTYPE=74 ADE on your Mac, ADE on your PC and your readers all have to be authorized individually to the same ADE user name and password to swap the DRM'ed books between them all. ADE 1.7.2 should be compatible with OS X 10.4 according to the Adobe website. I don't think you need anything newer. I use 2.0.1 on my Mac with the latest OS X. However, ADE on the Mac can't "see" Sony readers like it can other brands. You can manually drag-and-drop files from your computer to your readers as long as they are authorized to the same accounts. The old Sony software (called Reader Library) will work with the 350 and Mac OS X 10.4.11. See links below. It will see your 350 and authorize it. It won't see your T3. http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-do...&os_group_id=3 Unfortunately the new Sony software (called Reader for Mac) which works with your T3 won't work with your version of OS X. The Sony website says it needs OS X 10.5.8 or later. http://esupport.sony.com/CA/p/swu-do...&os_group_id=3 Another suggestion is to try to authorize your readers with ADE on your PC too. Sorry, I don't have a T3 although I wish I did. Good luck! |

Ok, for some odd reason, one of my PRS-350 Setup apps did load the Sony Reader application onto my Mac. Only the 350's are seen, still can't even sideload onto my T1 or T3. I might try the other workarounds later, but for now at least I have my 350's running!
