DLL error when adding books
Using 64bit Win 7, Calibre 64 bit version 2.33. Starting several updates ago, when I try to add books, in whatever manner, I get a message which says, "The procedure entry point ??4QString@@QEAAAEAV0@$$EAV0@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library Qt5Core.dll." So, I looked in the dll file, and sure enough, did not find that. But, after I click OK in Calibre three times, everything seems to work just fine. Anyone know what is going on, or how to fix it?

same here
I registered here so I could search for info on exactly same error with the dll. I also use 64 bit Win 7 and 64 bit Calibre (but I use 2.40). On the one hand its great to see I'm not alone or crazy, but on the other I wish I found others with the problem AND a solution. Any ideas anyone?

FYI, I removed (using Windows uninstall), redownloaded, and reinstalled 64 bit calibre. no change...same error. After getting and closing the error, the error pops back up. A total of 5 clicks on "OK" makes it go away, and the program seems to then operate OK.
Complete error message is: The procedure entry point ??4QString@@QEAAAEAV0@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library QT5Core.dll That is the entire error message. No buttons other than OK to make it go away. |

What format of books are you adding? Search your computer for Qt5Core.dll and see if there are any versions installed other than the one in calibre's install folder.

I appreciate the help Kovid.
I do have 3 copies of Qt5Core.dll One is where Calibre2 wants it (I assume) C:\Program Files\Calibre2\DLLs date modified 10/2/2015 version 5.4.1.0 2 seem to have come with my new-in-July Dell laptop. They are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\Components\Shell (file date 12/16/2014 Version 5.1.1.0 copyright by Digia Pic C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\Isopart\Sources\Recovery\Tools (file date 7/18/2014 version 5.1.1.0) yes...that is 2 different internal file dates on the version 5.1.1.0 file I got from Dell. FYI here is what the OS level PATH command gives me PATH=C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath;C:\Progra m Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\;C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\ System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShel l\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\;C:\Program Files\Calibre2\ |

I doubt those are causing the problem, but to be sure, rename them temporarily and see if it makes a difference.

I renamed the other 2 versions of Qt5cpre, and as you suspected it made no difference. I renamed them back to the original (to keep me from forgetting them).
FYI, you asked me about what kind of file I am trying to bring into the Calibre. The error pops up before I even point-and-shoot to a file. As soon as I click on the "Add Books" icon, the error box pops up. For what it is worth...I use ePub files. Once I get the error box series once, however, and click my way through it Calibre works Ok. Interestingly if I either cancel out of that "add books", or complete adding a book, the next (and subsequent) times I click all the way through the error boxes once it doesn't happen again. If I exit Calibre and go back in, however, the error comes back. the plot thickens....clues and hints abound, but no solution is sight yet |

Ah your issues are with file dialogs. Unfortunately, there are various programs on windows that mess with file dialogs, breaking them in different ways. One common culprit is SpiderOak, see the last point here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....s-occasionally
