Any new old school fantasy?
Anything you know of? I am not talking about new grimdark or full of politics and violance ones.
Something like original Dragonlance or A Memory, Sorrow and Thorn... Great evil, innocent heroes, journeys, sacrifice... You know, the first stuffs. |

I haven't read either of those you mention, but you could try Bujold's "Sharing Knife" series. It's got innocent heroes, great sacrifices, ancient evil, and journeys. Also romance, families, friendships, and family troubles.
Small spoiler about family troubles, revealed quite early in the book: Spoiler:
Novik's "Uprooted" might also fit. The great evil is right next door, so there's not much travel, and there's a bit of politics, but it's of the type "Your Majesty, please send help to hold back the great evil", not huge complex intrigues like in Game of Thrones. Mostly it's trying to deal with a great evil with too little knowledge and too few resources, making horrible mistakes from the best intentions and fixing them at huge costs. |

For Bujold, I'd actually recommend the Chalion books rather than The Sharing Knife. (Sharing Knife starts out as awesome adventure fantasy in book one, but moves strongly toward traditional romance / literary fiction in the later books.)
My personal favorite on the heroic fantasy front is Brandon Sanderson, especially the Mistborn books and The Way of Kings. Elizabeth Moon's Paksenarrion series is also very good. |

A few traditional old-school (so far) fantasy series I've started lately:
Brian Staveley - The Emperor's Blades (Unhewn Throne series) John Gwynne - Malice (Faithful and the Fallen series) Elspeth Cooper - Songs of the Earth (Wild Hunt series) Helen Lowe - The Heir of Night (Wall of Night series) And yes, Brandon Sanderson is probably the king of the non-grimdark at the moment. |

I've heard many label Peter Orullian (and his "Vault of Heaven" series) fondly as "Old School." I can't personally vouch for that, though.

It's true. I've read The Unremembered, and it's very much a group of friends from a small village realising their greater destiny sort of thing. I almost mentioned it above, but decided not to because I didn't like it much.

Is Terry Brooks worth reading? I heard that his (at least) first book of the Shannara series is a complete rip off of Tolkien but I don't mind that so long as it's good.

Another favourite of mine, although I don't know if it counts as sufficiently "new", is David Eddings. His "Belgariad" series is one of my very favourites. |

Eddings is very good, but I prefer The Elenium and The Tamuli.
Maybe I should clarify, I am looking for the books of the last 6-7 years. Sanderson is good, but I wouldn't call Stormlight or Mistborn old-school fantasy. Also, I find his characterization of women really artificial. What I am looking for is mostly something like a monomyth. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn was a perfect example of it, maybe I should reread it now that a sequel is coming. |

Another vote for Eddings. I loved those.
There's, um... Also Jordan's Wheel of Time series, but I presume you already know about that one. ![]() |

+1 for Eddings (I prefer Elenium & Tamuli too or Althalus)
Newer one would be Trudi Canavan (both Kyralia trilogies) |

Since the OP wants something traditional I highly recommend reading at least the first book and then deciding for himself. |

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give the first book a try.
