Cloning Kindle - docs, collection, reading progress, recents
Hello,
I've just bought a new kindle PW3 and am wondering how to get ALL my data from PW2 to this one. On Kindle I have a lot stuff, most of it are articles from around the web (DOCS) sent using Send to Kindle, some ebooks in mobi format and something from Amazon. I tried both these options: - copy just the documents folder - copy documents, system and all other folders from old to new one. Seems like it's working, just have a few issues: 1) collections and according docs are gone (had to be synced from cloud and only contained books from amazon and converted by amazon using my kindle email 2) read progress is not shown in the main page - progress bar is just empty. After opening the book, the progress is shown right and after returning to the main screen, the bar is refreshed for the opened book and shows progress perfectly 3) sorting by recent is gone completely. The books are unsorted. Especially issue 2 and 3 combined means I'm complete mess in articles - cannot see which ones I read and which ones i didn't. And there are tens or maybe hundreds of those. I guess there is some internal database which cannot be copied, which stores these settings. Is there someone who can help how to get this right? Thank you! |

Are both your pw-2 and pw-3 running the same firmware release version? I.E: 5.6.5
This is so we can be sure there are not any database differences between the two devices. The 'missing' information is stored in /var/local. You will need either ssh/telnet access or kTerm. For either of those, you will have to jailbreak both devices. So be sure you have the most recent jailbreak installed on both devices **before** upgrading them to 5.6.5 Then it should be possible to copy the files in /var/local from one device to another. |

Never jailbroke kindle before
![]() And yes, both are on the same firmware. Thank you very much. Guess there is no jailbreak-less solution? I'm going to study up on it ![]() EDIT: FW is the latest 5.6.5 |

You will have to either wait for the 'closed Kindle' jail break to be released, or jail break over the serial port.
= = = = Pushing everything on the one device to the 'cloud' and re-loading it from the 'cloud' with the other device **might** also sync your bookmarks, annotations, etc. |

Annotations should sync through the cloud, as long as the books were sent through Amazon's PDOC service (or were purchased from them).
Also, if your Amazon books are DRMed, you will find they don't open on the new device ![]() cf. https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com |

Isn't it possible to use kubrick (or other tool) to get to the file system via diagnostics? |

Or, read the title of Kubrick, you claimed to have a PW-2 and PW-3. Translation: The only known way to get any of the touch screen devices newer than a K5 into downloader mode (or fastboot) is to use the installed u-boot. Which in turn means having access to the serial port. But if you have access to the serial port, you can fix it without the help of anything other than the available command line. |
