Another cc & sd card problem...
Device: Lenovo Ideatab S6000
Android: Jelly Bean 4.2.2 external micro sd: SanDisk SDHC 64 GB CC: V4.2.5b I recently reformatted my 64 gb external sd card because I'd been reworking my calibre library on my pc and I wanted to reload it. When I originally mounted the sd card I didn't have too much trouble pointing CC at the external sd card and storing the books there. However since reformatting and remounting the sd card CC won't let me specify a path to the sd card. The default folder I am presented with (after some messing around!) is /storage/emulated/o//mnt/sdcard2/books/ I can't find a way to select a pathway selecting from a higher folder level than /storage/emulated so I can't get CC to select a folder on the external sd. Even if I type the pathway omitting the emulated and specifying sd card 1 the data still gets put on the internal "sd card". I've read the threads here and none of them seem to have a solution for exactly this. I know android kitkat 4.4 has issues with external sd cards but I'm running 4.2.2 which theoretically should be OK - and, as I said, I did originally have CC set up to use the external sd. Any ideas? Thanks. |

The FAQ entry How do I choose which formats calibre sends and where the books are stored? describes how to use SD cards for Android versions less than kitkat. In particular see the last paragraph. You would open "/", tap "sdcard2", then tap or create "books". Let us know how you get on. |

Hi Charley,
Thanks. I have read that FAQ - the default path is what I was left with after a lot of experimenting! I did try the 'create path' /mnt/sdcard2/books/ (or similar - it's actually sdcard1) but after I typed that in the folder still ended up on the emulated sdcard. No matter what I type to try to create a path to the external sd, the folder ends up on the emulated sd. |

Don't attempt to create a path. Instead, use the Change Folder button to go to "/" and tap the "Browse" button to see its contents. Next navigate by tapping on "sdcard1" then on "books". If books isn't there, use the create folder button to create it. Once you are in the "books" folder, tap "Use this folder".
Also be sure that you are changing the folder you want to change. My guess is that you want to change the general default, not one of the folders for a particular book format. |

Yeah, that's right, it's the default I'm trying to change. Currently when I try to "Change Folder" in order to browse I'm getting "cannot open folder". The sd card is properly mounted, the tablet recognises it and other apps are able to access it, it's just cc that I don't seem to be able to get to use it!

FINALLY!
Even though I'd swear I'd done this exact process before this time I got access to a browse menu from /mnt. The only thing different is that I'd gone back into settings and added more file formats to be downloaded (originally I only had .epub. .mobi and .pdf. I added some comics formats). Suddenly CC can open the right folder! Than you very much for trying to help! |
