Which e-book software synchronize?

I'm thinking of replacing my iPhone 4s with an iPhone 6s Plus - hoping that I don't need to carry my iPad around with me as much (with its libraries). My style is to have several different readers open, each with a different book. E-readers I have on my iPad are iBooks, NOOK, Marvin, Kobo, Stanza, Kindle, & Bluefire.

I know that if my iPad is connected to the Internet, I can open a book from any Kindle reader and it will synchronize to where I last left off reading that book on a different Kindle reader. Are there other reader programs that will synchronize the same way - so that I can read it with my phone while out - and continue with my iPad when I get home?

Marvin will if you sync via dropbox.

I guess I'll try again to get Marvin to sync. Past efforts have been futile, and I have dragged books to iTunes instead.

Thanks.

IBooks does it, I find its most reliable when setting a bookmark before closing the file. It used to just pick up but in recent months doesn't seem to manage so well.

Frankly I gave up trying to sync my iPad and iPhone. iBooks works well I suspect, if you are online every time you open the app, which I am not. And Marvin does not sync your real position but sends you back several pages. I just read different books on different devices. I don't use the Kindle app so I can't compare.

I don't think any app will sync the books themselves, you have to download them first. And I never managed to get Marvin to sync automatically, I always had to start the sync manually. Then I stopped bothering.

The one thing I like about Marvin is that at least it will ask you for permission before sending you back. iBooks doesn't do that and I lost my reading position several times because of that. It's the main reason I stopped using iBooks. I don't even think you can switch off sync.

Google Play Books syncs everything -- even your library. It's not as full featured as other ebook readers but has been improving over the past year and adding features.

Marvin doesn't sync automatically, you have to click the sync button. But for me it works very well.

My problem now is that I've added a Amazon Fire 7 to my stable of devices and now I'm searching for a cross platform app that can sync

I think Bluefire is the only app that will work with both platforms. Mantano might if you pay for their sync.

As JTravers said, Google Play books syncs everything. From that point of view its way ahead of the others. However, the actual reading experience is not as pleasant as with other apps.

Marvin is the first ebook app I've really loved since Stanza. The adjust lighting by dragging your finger and ODPS integration are must haves for me. I like the look of iBooks app best but it lacks in customizability.

Unfortunately, Marvin's developer has made it clear that an Android version is unlikely to happen.

Aldiko was just released for iOS, and it's one of the better apps for Android...so I'll get around to trying that out.

Bluefire is pretty useless for syncing, IMO.

Do you have some issue with Google Play books?

I'm also interested in Aldiko, didn't realise it was out for iOS. It's what I used in very early days of my playing with Android, and it was free.

Check out Gerty which is made by the same guy who developed Marvin. I use it on both my iPhone and iPad. It has t been updated in a while but I still like it for ePub

Don't like Gerty, already paid for Marvin, and really am very disappointed that Marvin is taking a back seat to Gerty... Also, Marvin's sync capacity just seemed never to work.

Further to comments above... Aldiko doesn't do it for me.

I'm currently reading in Stanza, iBooks and Google PLay books. For sync, Google play books wins hands down. As time wears on, I may well switch to that from Stanza. Not having to download to all devices separately is a real boon. Once you upload your books, they are available everywhere. It's MUCH better than it was.
