Where do you find your illustrations?
In the last couple of years I've noticed that the library is accumulating more and more books with amazing ilustrations. I was wondering where you guys are sourcing these from?

I just googled "book cover artist" and came up with a few.
There are also websites for artists to do any interior work. I would imagine the BPHs have a list of artists they recommend. Cheers, |

Oh, I wasn't clear enough. I didn't mean for a book that I want to publish or anything like that. I meant for out of copyright books like the awesome Voyages Extraordinaires series by Jules Verne that Tired N' Grumpy has added, or some of the classics that Granny Grump has added (do you need to be grumpy to write clean ebook markup and find ebook illustrations), or some of the aw3esome crutledge work.
My motivation for this is kind of selfish. There are some works that I want to make into personal ebooks because they are available on the Internet (but not necessarily out of copyright) like stories by Clark Ashton Smith or S. Fowler Wright and I'd love to find some original covers and interior illustrations if any exist. Since CAS was published in the pulps, I'd assume there must be some illos out there. |

Depending on the book and when the scanning was done the original illustrations (or photos) are available on Project Gutenberg. Also places that have PDF scans of PD titles (Archives.org, Google Books, etc.) are a place they could be sourced. Some will need some cleaning up depending on the original scans.

Speaking for myself, almost exclusively from Internet Archive or the Norwegian National Library, or in a few cases, photographed from library books.

Amen to all the above. Also check OpenLibrary.org, it is affiliated with Internet Archive, and sometimes offers titles not available at Internet Archive (archive.org).
Pdfs of old magazines can often be found at Jstor.org, and also at unz.org, but the image quality at unz.org is usually pretty sad. Sometimes GoogleImages has links to usable illustrations. (Tumblr? Pinterest?) |

All of the above, plus sometimes Wikisource also has decent illustrations. I'm a bit anal about cleaning up illustrations, so I'm doing my own cleaning up for my Jacobs/Batten fairy tales project, but the illustrations they have at Wikisource are quite all right. So perhaps you might find other well-made illustrated editions there. (To get the full resolution images, you have to click on the illustrations in the text, IIRC.)
