Amazon has an enormous supply of ebooks, but there are all in Kindle format.

Can anyone provide suggestions for good sources of epubs?

No, because you have not told us what country you're in, and most bookstores are country-specific. If you were to fill in the "Location" information in your profile it would make life enormously easier when answering questions like this. This is a world-wide site.

It is worth noting that it's very easy indeed to convert Kindle books to ePub.

Virtually anywhere that sells ebooks or offers public domain ebooks that isn't Amazon, and pretty much any public lending library that I'm aware of.

What genre/language/country/etc?

Just because you have a Kobo reader doesn't mean you want their book service.

I have a Nook and never bought a B&N e-book.

I'm going to have to find elsewhere. Since I don't want to update the desktop reader, it locked up my computer. Had to get rid of it via task manager. I have my books - all of 5 of them downloaded and I'll buy elsewhere. The e-reader is good, the service isn't.

I don't update on any app's say so. It has to tell what it is updating or improving before I hit download. Purchased security is allowed.

Where I obtain my epubs in order of preference

a) Public Domain sites

b) Publisher/author websites

c)Amazon by way of apprentice Alf and calibre

d) Kobo

My normal pattern is to either buy new books from a favorite place or do a search and compare for a particular book.

Google sells epubs too. I've found Google books to be cheaper than Kobo's and often even Amazon's. Of course, that depends on your country.

Again, though, Gerge, that depends what country you're in. Google Books is not available everywhere. The OP needs to come back and tell us which country he's in. We cannot give sensible recommendations without knowing that.
