Magazine content - where is it ?
Hello
I am reading some magazine on my Kindle and I wondered where they are stored. I have bought a subscription to the Magazine of F&SF and I would like to save the content. I have looked inside the Kindle and there are only a couple of files as follows: Fantasy & Science Fiction, Extended Edition_B01KZ2374Se6960a4fc5ad798d9a3cd8e38e4b6392 .mbp1 and Fantasy & Science Fiction, Extended Edition_B01KZ2374Se6960a4fc5ad798d9a3cd8e38e4b6392 .mbs. They are both 1Kb, so they are not the right files. I've found some files which have a .pobi extension with some significant size, bordering also on 1 Mb, so they could be good candidates. But what could I do with them ? Any suggestion on what I should look for ? Shouldn't they be in some azw format ? |

Yes, the ".pobi" file format is that used for periodicals. They are essentially Mobi files with some additional metadata to make the Kindle treat them as periodicals, rather than books.
To convert them to another format, copy the files from the Kindle to your PC, change the extension from ".pobi" to ".mobi" or ".azw", and import into Calibre. |

It's years since I've done it, but it worked at that time. We can't provide assistance on DRM removal here, as you know. I'd suggest asking at Alf's blog.

To OP: Download to your computer. Use Alf to deal with DRM. With recent updates, the magazine files are under DOCUMENTS but are listed as POBI Files. No idea what that is. The ones that download to your computer are either mobi or AZW*
I do recommend doing this though. For awhile, Amazon was eliminating magazines that were more than 2 years old. They have since restored them, but could potentially do it again. edited to add: Now, I know that Alf deals with DRM on Asimov, Hitchcock, Analog and Fantasy magazines, but it does not work on all other magazines. Case in point - won't work on either of my cooking magazines which is why I discontinued them. No way to print out a recipe since it won't download to computer.
