Wildside press having problems with Google

I found an interesting email from Wildside press in my box today. I have exerpted some parts below:

A DIFFICULT MONTH — AND IT'S ONLY HALF OVER!
September has been Wildside's worst months in many years. We had all of our books and ebooks removed from Google Play (apparently they have new rules, and one of them is that a publisher must have less than 20% public domain titles to qualify). We have about 10,000 public domain books (which pay the bills) and 4,000 non-public domain books (which often don't make much money). This resulted in all of our titles being removed from the Google Play bookstore, which is going to cost us at least sixteen thousand dollars a year. Thanks, Google. You're a pal

Sounds like they are having some problems with Google. They also explained why there was no freebee last week.

Just a reminder that we have a free ebook for download most Tuesdays on our web site, www.wildsidepress.com — and if we don't have one, it's because we were busy with other things (like trying to get our app up on the Google Play Store last week). Freebies will also be available through our app (and will move to only being available through the app by the end of the year)

That's a shame. I picked up several of their PD collections at Kobo with the 50% off coupon code that they ran during their contest. They have a lot of good stuff, some of which would be hard to find on my own, so a buck (or 50¢, in my case) seemed pretty reasonable.

I agree Cromag. I love their .99 megapacks and weekly freebees. Someone always has to come along and cause trouble in some way for the rest of us it seems.

Google shut down all small presses for a bit to look for pirates.
Then they reopened to only those that had published before.
It does suck that innocents like wild press were hurt in the process.

Sorry to hear that, but really, who needs another app? Instead of trying to get their app in the play store, they need to work on something else. Maybe pruning the PD books in their library so they can get their books listed there, instead?

Sorry to hear of their troubles, but won't be getting or posting about their freebies once they are ensconced in their app (or any of their other books that require an app, either).

I agree. I'll never buy (even for free) a book that requires yet another app to download. If I can't read it on my eInk reader, it's of no interest to me. I don't have room for any more apps on my Galaxy s4 anyway, and I've already deleted the Kindle app because it eats up all of the free space I have on it.
