Mantano for iOS
Just discovered that my favorite reader on Android is available for my iPad.
It looks to be *mostly* on par with the Android version, at least for the features I use. And it seems to be much more responsive, but I think that's mostly due to comparing the cpu on the iPad compared to my Nook HD. I used the Free version first just to make sure, before buying it. Has anyone seen how to change the brightness on the fly (on the android version, you could swipe the side). I suppose I could swipe up to get to iOS controls, if nothing else. |

I don't use the app often, but I never found a way to control the brightness in the app. I always use the iOS controls.

I'm pleased to see Mantano finally offer a free version for iOS. I wanted to try before I buy. I've loaded 3 books on so far, just to see how it goes. I like the look so far, although it is a bit on the bright side. This may be my substitute for Overdrive for library books. Overdrive's latest update rendered the app unusable, it's just awful now. Hangs, freezes, just can't deal with it.
I think I'll install Mantano on another i-thingie and see if the books manage to synchronize. It's a feature I like and one Bluefire was striving for and didn't quite get there, the app would freeze if I had that feature enabled so I just gave up. Overdrive succeeded maybe about a year ago or more with Onedrive, then the feature stopped working with one of their updates. Another must have for me is the ability to highlight and annotate. Not sure yet how Mantano deals with that. I do like Bluefire, but good grief, their method of setting a bookmark is awfully clunky. Instead of just setting the bookmark, a window opens and you have to "save" it. I just want an app that will read e-pubs, both drm'd and not. I don't feel like going through all the stuff of converting on a computer and then loading onto my reading devices. Thanks for posting, Sangahm. |

I think you have to subscribe to Montano's cloud service in order to have it sync. The cheapest plan is $10/yr. I tried it, but it was hit or miss with syncing. I started having problems with it syncing to the first page. I gave up when I opened my book and I was back to page one and it would not take me to the farthest read spot. I went back to Bluefire. I do have some problems with it taking forever to turn a page or I have to hit it several times, but it syncs pretty good.
There is a lot I really like about Montano. I believe the app has had an update since I used it...most of my reading is using the kindle app. |

I used to love Mantano as my go to reader app but it started duplicating itself on my Android reader, Galaxy Player. I'd check my storage and find it duplicated every book and I had a hard time restoring it to its' proper, imo, running condition. It is also not as manageable as I'd like especially as I had the paid version.
I very happy with the iphone reader app. I does nearly everything I want and especially it does the primaries how I want. I'm especially happy with how it categorizes the books and does a very good job at it. The most recent upgrade didn't do much but added a "gray" screen...meh I prefer the black screen for night reading and sepia for day reading...nice. I use my iphone 6+ as my "the one that rules them all"...it is my phone, mobile internet, message, reader, etc. and does them all very well... |
