Voyage battery life

When you read the tech specs for the Voyage it says up to 6 weeks of 30 minutes a day of reading with the wifi, and or the 3g off and the light set to 10. That is about 21 hours of reading if you follow the specs.
Well I read some days as much as 8 hrs. I am retired and have bad hearing so reading is something I do instead of watching TV. So with that in mind, I am getting just about 20 hours of use out of my voyage battery, reading and maybe 30 minutes with the wifi enabled.

Worth noting that, should you wish to, you can greatly extend battery life by turning WiFi off. WiFi uses a lot of power.

Also, if you have good enough external light, set the front light to lowest. That will also give you longer batter life between charges.

The Voyage will do that automatically if you turn the automatic light sensor on.

Yep I only turn wifi on when I need to download or if I want to sync. That amounts to maybe 30 mins of wifi being enabled over the 20 hours of use.

Good idea. I did some experiments and found that leaving WiFi off increased battery life by about 50%.

Leave off the sensor because that can use more battery as you move the Voyage. Even just putting it down can cause the light to change due to the sensor.

I like the light sensor. If I put my Voyage down, I almost always close the cover and put it to sleep, which of course turns off the light.

I think that automatic light sensor doesn't work that way. If there is a lot of external light, then front light level is increased not decreased.

Up to a certain point, yes, you're right, but if the ambient light is brighter than a certain level it turns the light down to the minimum. You'll find that if you read your Voyage in direct sunlight, for example, it will turn the light down to the minimum.

I seem to have taught my voyage that I want it an 10 regardless of where I am or what the light is. And I am not having an issue with it changing any more. Now it took me about a week to get that to happen.

You could have just turned off the light sensor to do that

. It's a checkbox next to the light level slider.

Really?? I didn't know that.

When I saw that brightness is increased outside I turned Auto brightnes OFF and never turned ON again.

Well, well, I tried it and it really does work that way. Auto brightness might be useful after all.
