Cool Reader - wont recognise changed metadata
I use Cool Reader on my Android tablet to read eBooks and Calibre on my PC to manage them.
Today, I added a book to calibre and updated metadata to mark it as the 5th book of a series. I also updated 2 existing books to put them into a new series. I copied all 3 files to the tablet, started up Cool Reader and did a "Scan books in Directory" on the folder that I place all my books. However, when I use the Series option it does not see any of these 3 books. I've tried "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data" from Cool Reader, but, still no joy. Anyone got any ideas for what I can do, please? |

When you say "copied all 3 files", do you mean you used calibre's toolbar button "Send to device"?
Standard operating procedure for calibre is NOT to embed updated metadata in the book files except in the copies exported through the calibre UI. You can use the Embed Metadata tool (or Polish books) to update the metadata in the in-library copies. Note that that will not take plugboards into account. |

I have tried deleting the 3 files, doing a "Scan" (after which the books are not listed) then copying to device and doing another scan - they appear but with old metadata! I must be doing something stupidly wrong!!!! When you say to use "Embed Metadata tool (or Polish books)".....are these in Calibre or Cool Reader or something else? What I really want is to get Cool Reader to forget all about its metadata and do a Scan to start again from scratch. If I remove and re-install Cool Reader I am guessing I will lose information about which books I've marked as "finished" |

Embed/Polish are in calibre -- using Send-to-device makes them unnecessary. Some peolple have the unpredictable habit of copying through their file browser though.
![]() Sounds like the problem is Coolreader then. No idea why though, I am more of a calibre guru. ![]() |

Perhaps report a bug to Coolreader? If they are keeping stale metadata, they shouldn't be.

I would recommend using calibre companion app if you are a calibre user. It syncs with calibre and so will have updated metadata without needing to send your books to device again.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...eandroid&hl=en you can try the free version from here https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...e.ccdemo&hl=en free version of Calibre Companion is fully functional, but limited to 20 books on your device. |

I'm having this problem myself; got the latest version of CoolReader, have completely removed all the books from my HTC One M9, uninstalled CR...and it *still* has a list of authors (after reinstalling "fresh"). Where is this mythological settings folder? It's driving me mad. Thanks!

Okay, for anyone else who gets here by Googling:
There's a folder named .crX (mine is .cr3, but I suspect that might change with the program version); *that* contains the settings and saved metadata for CoolReader's library. Uninstall CR, delete that, then reinstall and it won't have any info on anything. Finally. Did some poking around, found the programmer's sourceforge page, noticed a trend in file naming. ...this after muuuuuuuch anger and a long, long time looking for this. |
