A new source for audiobook streaming?

It seems that we may have a new source for audiobook streaming. I saw this article over at Techlicious, though I am sure others are carrying the news as well. TuneIn radio - a online radio streaming service - is adding a premium membership. In addition to radio stations (many of which you'll now get commercial-free) you can get MLB baseball, Soccer, and audiobooks.

Sorry if I'm being dense, but where is the information on how audiobooks work at TuneIn? I've looked at the site, and I don't even see a section listing available audiobooks, let alone info on whether I can download to a device or if I have to stream.

The Help Center section is useless, and clicking on the Premium tab just invites me to sign up, which I don't want to do before I have more information. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I'm curious, too. Perhaps someone who has signed up and been admitted to the inner sanctum will enlighten us.

My guess is that it's streaming only, which is a non-starter for me. I'd also want to take a look at the library before I bothered.

I don't think you'll see audiobook listings until after you sign up for Premium service ($7.99/mo). At least they have a 30-day free trial.

My experience thus far.

Navigation in an audio book stinks, at least on the device I am currently using.

You can't download, but I just turned off the wifi and it's still playing the book, so far.

It finally stopped after playing 2 chapters while off line.

I'm not sure what all the icons on the web site mean. Some audio books say "listen on demand" (and you can add it to your profile. Others just say "listen to..." and have no + to add it to your profile.

I started 3 different books until I settled on one, and then, during a chapter break, one of the previous books played for a second or two. It was weird. I went to the web site and deleted that book from my profile, and that stopped it. But sometimes a word or two (of my current book) pipes up out of place during a chapter break.

Also it stopped playing when I was in my basement, but the phone was in my pocket and I might have pushed a button. At that point it was a Pain to get back to my place. Fortunately I knew where I was, but it wanted to start from the beginning.

I'm thinking even a free trial sounds like it's not worth it. Maybe I'll wait and hope some kinks get worked out.

Well you can't know unless you use the free trial, if you are going to like it, I think...I am undecided if I will continue after the trial, I won't know until after I listen to several books.

But I will likely cancel tune in premium as well as Scribd and just rely on the library and the books I've purchased but haven't listened to, yet.

I've been so disappointed in library offerings recently--I rejoined FLP, but they don't seem to be adding many audiobooks lately. Ditto with my home library. Now Scribd isn't going to be very attractive anymore. I need my audiobooks!

You can request that FLP buy stuff, seems to work for me, sometimes. Otherwise there are other " sources " that we do not name here....

Just signed up for the free 30-day trial. Then I attempted to play premium content via the TuneIn app inside Amazon Echo. No go. Looks like the Echo only supports standard TuneIn content.

When I browsed the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre, I only got 15 audiobooks. Is this for real???

FLP has.become a not very good value, IMO, unless you have no viable alternative at all. After several months this past spring and summer when they bought nothing at all, they've been adding books very slowly, it seems to me. For the long-time user who has already cherry-picked its catalogue, it's hard to make a case for buying a card. I'm lucky; I got an FLP card for my mother when seniors were free and so far, she seems to be grandfathered. But if it got pulled, I'd wait a while before rejoining, if I did at all.

I've never had any luck with requests to FLP. My other two OverDrive libraries are more amenable.

Do you not see the MORE link at the bottom right of the page? There are tons more.

I don't like that you can't click on a title to learn more about it, instead it starts playing in the browser. And having to stream over wi-fi makes me nervous.
