About this project

I am 22 year old Perry Garcia from florida. All my life I have lived far from libraries and never able to read all the book I ever wanted too. I want this project to give people the option to just search for physics and have the latest books to read. I am asking for such a large ammount of money for the legal fees because many book owners will be upset that I am choosing to share millions of books. One thing that I will do is not make them downloadable just readable. I truly believe this will be a huge success and you all can be apart of its birth.

Risks and challenges

I predict multiple lawsuits will come once my website is ready to launch but with the proper team of lawyers this will be a major victory and we will be able to spread books to the millions of people who otherwise would of never of read these books.

I was laughing so hard...

The reward levels are so out-of-whack with reality (even for this campaign).

I love that for $1,000 or more, he'll only send a thank you letter to the US. And that the $10,000 level is limited to 10 people.

What makes him think he can just put ebooks online? Lawyers or not, it will always be piracy.

Remember CodexCloud (and its thread at MobileRead)? The site purported to allow users to upload all their ebooks, to make available for browsing and sharing books that were not copyright protected, and to make private (to each uploader) books that were copyright-protected. However, what CodexCloud actually did (besides converting every uploaded non-epub book to the epub format, whether the uploader wanted that to happen or not) was make available to all site users every ebook that was uploaded. I am surprised the site lasted as long as it did, before suddenly disappearing without warning. This site claims CodexCloud was acquired by a third party, in 2012.

I believe CodexCloud's creator - Paul Hunkin - was disingenuous. I'm unsure what to make of the Kickstarter "! Online Library !" campaign creator mentioned in the OP - Perry Garcia. Is he trying to make some quick bucks and then run with the money? Or does he have his head up his, er - in the clouds, and believe his own hype? The current contributor status of Perry's Kickstarter campaign implies his 3F targets' heads are not in the clouds, however.

There is obviously a typo on his age.

I think he meant 12 and not 22.

BUT WAIT! --- Maybe it's a hand-written letter by Abraham Lincoln? After careful consideration, I think it may be a hand-written letter by Barney Homer, the farmer who lives over in the north holler who raises pigs.

BUT WAIT, AGAIN! --- The real mystery is what this hand-written letter contains. Perhaps we will find out who the conspirators were in the JFK Assassination? It's a possibility....

Well, this campaign is ending in less than two days, and Perry hasn't attracted a single backer.

Oh, that guy has another bogus campaign too. Obviously was hoping to run off with people's money.

It's either they're scamming you, or people have no idea what they're getting themselves into with these crowdsourcing projects.

Between this thread and that other thread attempting to compare two writers, I'm laughing tears! (Since this is a family site, I can't really tell you the actual orifice, but 'tears' seems pretty safe.)

Even at the updated half million USD, what's he going to do - pirate all those library books? $500K USD won't buy him a million ebooks, let alone "millions".

And despite the obvious idiocy of his request, I'm actually surprised he didn't get any takers. All those people sending money to Nigeria must have a few bucks left to support a worthy cause.
