Blatantly political rant

I know, I know... Politics is a bad thing to talk about in such a place. But I just want to point out that on July 4th, we have only 200 more days until we usher in the next non-shrubbery based Administration. And I don't care who wins. Hell, the Libertarians could put their usual nut job in and I'd be waving a flag and cheering my fool head off.

So, how are things with you guys?

Kerry got the Klingon vote in 2004. I wonder if McCain will get it this time. After all, he was a warrior.

The closer we get to the day, and the worse the economy gets, the less I'm looking forward to it. Because as much as this country needs to change its habits, vis-a-vis energy usage, work habits, efficiency, recycling, and curbing pollution, as the economy gets worse the political rhetoric is giving up on green and increasingly talking about preserving the status quo, in order to not scare voters.

At this rate, I'll be surprised if either candidate can maintain a green platform into November, or into their administration.

Waiting for the Onuissance...

I share your fears. Hownahell are we to get something to change in our habits if our leaders refuse to lead? Or we refuse to select someone who will lead? A collapse will be catastrophic, painful, and devastating. And we don't care as long as we can drive our SUV's, sit in our 68 degree AC'd homes, and eat until we are fat.

Sorry, I tend to rant when this sort of thing gets brought up.

Eh, you're preaching to the choir with me. So, go ahead and rant away in my general direction. I'll just sit here and nod my head in agreement, unless I think up something I can actually add to the rant.

Careful: Some of us are the "fat of the land," and exactly who the skinny ones will attack first. I've felt for years that the U.S. can no longer afford to play the global bully, it's just turning international favor against us, and these days, even the smallest countries have formidable weapons (or good terrorists). I can only hope the next Prez manages to reverse that trend... we need global good will as much as we need domestic inspiration to do better.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.... Look back over the last 50 years and see what happened to Presidents that took a principled stand (i.e. leadership) without sticking his finger in the poll winds and see what happened....

I'd prefer to measure how successfully their leadership managed to improve the country... but I see your point. Progress is often thankless.
