Best choice of Kobo?
Just decided to retire my old Kindle 4 NT and due to wanting epubs and calibre collection handling am looking at a Kobo. Would love to get an H20 but Amazons price for those is £175 which seems stupidly high considering WHSmith do them for £140 but seems to all be dispatched from abroad so I guess thats the hike.

I'm shopping at amazon due to having vouchers for there.

So I either wait and see if the price drops or go for something like the Glo HD or the Aura HD. So aside from the screen size is there a preference? Both seem to have micro SD and decent lights.

The Aura HD has been discontinued. The best Kobo Reader (IMHO) is the Aura H2O. The H2O has a very nice screen and the larger size is very nice. It's 6.8" instead of 6".

The Kobo Glo HD does not have a micro SD slot, but does have 4 GB internal. I love mine, also recommend the Aura HD or the Aura H2O. If you have vouchers, I suggest getting the H2O.

If 6" is your thing, get the Glo HD. If you like the extra .8" (like I do), get the H2O. I own both the Aura HD and the H2O, and I wouldn't recommend the Aura HD any more. The Carta screen of the H2O is significantly better.

As has been said, the Glo HD does not have an SD slot. Whether that's a dealbreaker is up to you; my H2O has one, but I have never used it and wouldn't miss it if it weren't there.

Ahh I was sure id seen it did have like the original Glo, no not a deal breaker 4GB should be plenty (about 60mb left on my 2GB Kindle) but would definitely be a nice to have.

Maybe worth going for the non amazon H20 (£35 cheaper) and using my vouchers for a decent case.

If I could do collections via calibre on a Kindle Voyage (without hardware tampering) id be there in a heartbeat but I cant so I wont be.

You get the all the storage that's left after the OS. Somewhere over 3GB of the Kobo's 4GB is available for use. (Don't have my H2O at hand at the moment.)

I know on the older kobos, it is all for books.
I know my older e-ink kindles aren't portioned but my Fire is.

I have to disagree with this. I've had a Kobo Aura HD for a year now, and still like it quite a bit. Love the fact that it's so customizable as far as fonts, margins, line spacing, etc. I haven't really been bothered by buggy firmware--but I do admit that there have been posts about that.

On the other hand, I have a Kindle PW2 and just today received a brand new Voyage in the mail. Haven't had a chance to put the Voyage through it's paces yet, but hope to get it loaded up with books tonight.

I like both my Kobos and Kindles--my feeling is if you want to read ePubs (without conversion) and to be able to customize your reading interface go with a Kobo. On the other hand, if you want something easy to use and easy access to Amazon's eBook store, go with a Kindle. The trade off is the limited customization of the user interface.

I would say that neither device would be the wrong choice.

I also disagree. I mostly read with a Kindle Voyage but I have a Kobo Glo and a Kobo Aura and yes, their firmware is a bit buggy. But not so much that it's ever a problem. It's a very stable device that sometimes doesn't work the way you expect it to. But it always works well.

I prefer the Kindle but Kobo's are very good ereaders with a different feature set that appeals to a lot of people.

My Aura HD has a few quirks, but it's not really "buggy", anymore so that my last Kindle was.

According to reviews of the Glo HD you have approx 3.1GB for book storage.

There is a mod for the Glo HD, but you have to open it up (probably voiding the warranty). Folks have cloned the image off of the current memory (it's a standard micro SD) and replaced the internal memory with a larger card.
