Thanks for pointing that out tubemonkey. I just gave that a try on my Samsung Note 8 and it actually does work. I downloaded a tv show from my prime list and now I can watch it even when not in my wifi range!

I haven't tried this yet. Does it still limit the days you can have the video on your device? I mainly purchased a Fire to download videos, then I found out they were time limited, like rentals.

Once you start watching a downloaded video offline—which can be downloaded in one of three quality settings—the app will pop up a warning that the video will stop working 72 hours after the viewing first began. Simply reloading the app once you've returned to an Internet connection will restart any such timers.
