Device: Kindle Paperwhite v2
Bricked Kindle PW2

Short story: I plugged my kindle to charge. Went back after a hour or so, and kindle was unresponsive, only showing screensaver.

Things I tried:
Holding down power button( the orange light flashes a few times, but no effect)
Charging overnight( Green light never comes up, only orange)
Disassembling and disconnecting battery ( no effect)

Is there any way to recover it? Can I flash it with serial cable even if's completely frozen? If yes, which one I should buy?
The device is not jailbroken.

Also, the device gets quite hot when being charged. But not the battery itself.
Thanks for help

Also when you connect it to computer, you can hear the sound that the device is connected, but instantly after that there is sound that device is disconnected, so it doesn't appear as usb device.

Plug it into your computer and leave it there for awhile, and then see if it takes a charge.

ADDED: If this unit is getting hot, I wouldn't leave it home alone. You need to monitor THAT issue.

You and I seem to have similar symptoms, though I feel like mine is because of a recent software update. I also get the orange charging light always, but mine's backlight is always on.

First: A Kindle does not have a backlight. It has a frontlight.

Second: Yes, the frontlight is always on. That's how Amazon designed it. However, it's so low (when turned down) that it's negligible and is of no consequence to most users.

Third: Try plugging it into your computer to see what happens.

I already charged it overnight twice with wall charger, is there any difference if I charge with computer? Althought I don't want to charge my kindle with wall charger anymore, because last time I left it overnight, my house fuses turned off electricity

This is what sometimes appears on computer:

and it completely disconnects after some time.

I'll let some more knowledgeable members offer suggestions.

To clarify:

1) Your computer no longer recognizes your device after your firmware upgrade. Correct?

Not sure about firmware upgrade, but it installs it automatically without any prompt? So it could have updated while I was away from kindle.

No, I just put it to charge. After a hour or so I tried to use it, but it was frozen on screensaver
