Which file types do I need to transfer to new Kindle Paperwhite?
I have a large number of books on my 2012 Kindle Touch that are non-DRM and not purchased from Amazon. I'm purchasing a new Kindle Paperwhite and plan to transfer my books via USB.
When I opened the documents folder to start transferring the books to my computer, there are tons of files and I'm not sure which ones to transfer. Each book has at least two 'files' a MOBI file and a File Folder. Some of the file folders are empty, some of them have .mbp1 or .mbs files, some of them have both, some of them have other files. Do I need to transfer all of these file folders, or just the MOBI files? Thank you for any help. |

The {bookname}.sdr/ folder contains annotations. If you move the folder, with all the
{bookname}.(mbs|mbp1|azw3f|azw3r) files, you will retain your notes and bookmarks. (Some of those are for MOBI, some for AZW3.) |

Thank you for the quick reply!
None of the books I'm transferring have any annotations (they are unread) so would I be able to just transfer the .MOBI files? Last edited by chairman meow; 08-07-2015 at 08:21 PM. |

Yes, just transfer the Mobi files.

Yes, you can just move over the MOBIs themselves, and your empty annotations will not be transferred over. Your new Kindle will have to generate empty annotations for itself.
