Kindle Touch 7th - Author field editing

Hi Guys!

Im new to the forum, i did give a look around but im unable to find what im looking for, i hope you can help me!

here is the situation: im the happy owner of a kindle touch 7th gen, im using calibre to move some mobi (and a couple epub) books to the kindle, after converting them when necessaire.

I would enjoy to display the Title of the book in the Title space, and i would like to display the string "Author - Series 00 (pubdate)" in the second line just below the Title line.

I did try to mess around with the metadata plugboard, but sometimes it gives no effects (no idea why) and sometimes its come out a bit messed up

example: Tom - Jack Ryan 02 Clancy

I think i did solve the issue by manually putting the informations about the series manually in the author field, but for some reasons it still mixes up the words, probably because of some settings of the author sorts, plus its not the ideal solution...

so... Would you be so kind and explain me which settings should i use to display on the kindle touch 7th gen the books as follows

Title
Author - Series 00 (YEAR)

and doing it without manually changing the data in the fields?

MOBI/AZW3 does not support author, only author_sort. The Kindle automatically swaps the author around the comma for display purposes, and sorts off the invisible, stored value.

If you are going to add extra content to the author(_sort) field, you need to change MOBI output to not use author_sort for author.
Books wll be sorted by author first name.

Thanks for your answer, that was useful but..
where do i do that? sorry, im a bit of a noob, i did try to modify the output pluging but it doesnt allow settings. Working around the metadata plugboard i didnt achieve any result, best result gave me this:

e.g. Tom - Jack Ryan 01 Clancy

moving the clancy at the very end... no idea

if you could consider me a total noob and give a brief but step by step explanation id be greatly thankfu!!

Your Library Metadata must be wrong (values in the various SORT fields)
get: The Quality check PI

You need to run (and fix as needed ) the various metadata tests so you have a uniform set of data


BTW I insert Series info into the Title. your kindle will post (transfer) process the author block

Hmm, actually if I think about it, I believe the plugin overrides the setting in Output options. Just use the "authors" field and not the "author_sort" field in your plugboard, and make sure the calibre "authors" field does not have any commas.

You can also inspect the metadata of the book after it is sent to the Kindle -- easiest way is via calibre's command-line backend:

ebook-meta path/to/book.azw3

The author_sort value (in brackets) should not have any commas.
