UI or Help file issue?

I had an issue with spellcheck confusion of American English and British English. I decided to switch out dictionaries.
The online documentation says:
"You can install your own dictionaries via Preferences->Editor->Manage spelling dictionaries"

I discover that the Preferences dialog does not have an "Editor" choice. Interface/Conversion/Import-Export, etc. No Editor. I am using 32-bit 1.46 and 64-bit 2.31 versions. I checked the various options in the Preferences dialog to see if the dictionary feature had migrated to another location. I found nothing.

Anybody here have a word of guidance? Is this function still in Calibre?

I found a route to a dictionary feature but I can't believe this route can be the correct one, since it is so well hidden:

1) select an azw or epub to edit and open the main Edit dialog
2) click on Edit menu in the resulting Edit dialog
3) select Preferences from the Edit menu
4) in the resulting "kitchen-sink style" dialog, click on the Editor Settings icon
5) click on button labeled 'Manage spelling dictionaries'

Without going into related UI standards issues, much of the feature-set in some of these dialogs seem to be appropriate for the more accessible Preferences dialog in the main Calibre interface.

The Editor preferences are ONLY found on the Preferences menu within the Editor; not in the main calibre preferences menu.

Yes. Thanks for the confirmation. A contributory factor is that labels used in the Help file did not exactly conform to the current interface as well.

Perhaps one day this circuitous route can be eliminated by putting the "manage spelling dictionary" widget on the same Spellcheck dialog in which the dictionary problem manifests itself.

The calibre book editor is implemented as discrete program (ebook-edit.exe), as is the book viewer (ebook-viewer.exe), many people use these programs but they don't use the library manager (calibre.exe).

Hence it makes a lot of sense that the preferences for each program are self contained.

You mention various .exe components. These code structural issues should be invisible to the average user. A user is task oriented, with no interest in how the tool they are using is coded or internally structured.

Python is an object-oriented language. This makes it possible, with a foundation of good design, to place widgets very easily within a typical work flow. If a program has useable features, it is best not to hide them.

Seeing the manual that says
Quote:
Adding new dictionaries

The spelling checker comes with builtin dictionaries for the English and Spanish languages. You can install your own dictionaries via Preferences->Editor->Manage spelling dictionaries. The spell checker can use dictionaries from the OpenOffice program (in the .oxt format). You can download these dictionaries from The OpenOffice Extensions repository.
is the EDITOR manual, it would be apparent that this is referring to the menus found in the EDITOR and NOT in calibre itself.
